For those who work 12's and do self scheduling

Hello,

I'm trying to think of how to schedule myself so that I won't burn out and will have time for school, church, and other activities.

Good news is that I don't go back to school until spring of 2013, so I have a few months of just work and play.

My job requires one monday and friday and two weekends a month.

I'm thinking something like this:

Week one- mon, tue, friday

week two-wed, sat, sun

week three-tue, thur, sat

Week four- tue, wed, friday

IDK. I've done three days on and five days off and hated it. It burned me out quickly. My ideal schedule would be part time two days a week but the hubby isn't a big fan of me working parttime. Atleast now while we have bills up to our neck.

I don't do self scheduling, but when I work 12s I like to do 2 in a row, a few days off, then work one more. It takes me just as much time to recover from one 12 than it does for 2 in a row. Looks like what you planned out would allow you to do the most outside of work.

Are allowed to splt weekends? You might find it easier to do 2 days in a row, the have time off rather than just work one shift at a time as you would probably have the same pts that way. Doing only one shift at a time could mean a different assignment each day.

Shoot when I did 12s at night I wanted all 3 in a row. Then I had up tp 5 days away.. It was great for me. Sure those 3 days sucked, but it's called work for a reason. That of course does not mean that works for everyone. Try out that schedule and see how you do. Adjust as needed. Good luck to you.

I group my days together, so ultimately I am off for 5-6, then work like...Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun, Tues, Wed...off for 6 then work Wed, Thurs, Sat, Sun, Mon, Wed, then start over with the first group. Yes, it is tiring, but I just LOVE my days off. I can get tons done, and I'm in school too, so it gives me time for school work, housework, shopping, etc.

That schedule would seem okay as long as you are working days... If not, while working nights, in a row is the only way to go. I work nights so the only way I feel like I get any time off is by doing my days in a row. I still feel like my first day is shot just because I have to sleep. Working days allows for more flexible scheduling though.

I work nights and would rather do 6 in a row with 8 off.

I ALWAYS do my 3 in a row. Get the week over with and relax

How about Thurs - Tues? 6 in a row, then 8 off. Those 6 shifts are hard, but the 8 off is so nice. You have time to be a normal person.
