San Diego is not too far behind. About the same or less in terms of rent, varying on commute time. Gas is more expensive too. Similar cost of living as the bay area, definite pay cut. It's the sunshine tax.

I dislike LA for its rent and commute, but it offers a lot. I'd take it over the boonies in the central Valley, let alone state somewhere in xx state in the south or something

I agree. LA is one of the most expensive places to live but they offer life changing opportuntities.

It's true folks. I pay $1300 for a 350 sq ft studio. And, no, this is not a luxury apartment building. The luxury apartments that are on my block are $2000+ for the studios / 1 bdrms. Of course, this is a very walkable area of DTLA, so it's definitely about the location. But even in the suburbs it's a lot. I was paying $1175 for a 615 sq ft 1 bdrm. When I moved out this past summer, they raised the rent to $1310 for the same unit.

You either didn't read the article the OP posted, or you missed the point of it. It's not the real cost of the rent itself, it's the disparity between rent cost and income. "While median rents in New York and San Francisco are relatively close to LA's, the median income here is much lower." In other words, we spend a disproportionate ratio of our incomes on our rents relative to even other metropolitan areas, not real cost.

Hello Mclenna, I stumbled across your post and saw thatyou have experience being on the hiring panel and I would appreciate your feedback. I am currently in CA and thinking about attending an accelerated asn/bsn program in Puerto rico. . Its ACEN/NLNAC accredited and has an accredited date 1975-june 2020.

I wanted to know do employers look at hiring graduates accreditation. residency, and clinical (reputable hospitals, specialty, etc) Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you

There's more to the story than you're revealing. As a nurse with a BSN degree, a couple of years of acute care experience and a specialty certification, you are a far more desirable candidate than most of the people who are inquiring about relocation to CA.

Where are you filling your tank up for that much? You must be getting premium or getting gas from the high branded gas stations. There is way cheaper stations than that.
