For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

Published

Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?

For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:

I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.

So what do you all want to buy?

Pay off all of those lovely credit card bills that I used to get through school!!!!

Will be graduating with BSN in May 2012, so my wish list is...

1. Be able to pay for all the senior year stuff my oldest will want.

2. Be able to buy organic, at least meats, fruits and veggies.

3. Dentist.

4. Finish the remodeling of our house and not have to buy the cheapest stuff.

5. Pay all my bills on time, heck, maybe even early!

6. A new Caravan

7. A once-a-month maid service for me and also for my mother-in-law.

8. Help my kids with college.

9. Be able to visit my dad in Maryland at least twice a year.

10. A gym membership for me and my family.

11. Be able to go to Six Flags more than once a summer (and get those awesome flash passes that let you skip to the front of the line!).

At his point I will be happy to be able to pay bills and pay off debt! I also want a fence for our backyard and to take a family trip to Disney before our boys get much older! And then the next trip will be back to my homeland, Puerto Rico to visit family, enjoy the beach and show my kids all the cool places I remember from when I was little!

Let's see what else.....Coach purses, Bebe clothing, millions of shoes, perfumes, a diamond tennis bracelet, frequent trips to the nail and hair salon, a trip somewhere overseas and maybe a cruise. I will also be going to pharmacy school afterwards, so i will save up for that as well, want to be able to go back home to Africa and take a long vacation on the beach their, splurge on my parents and siblings a little, they deserve it...and Get a new car of course!

Oops double post

I haven't even started yet, but I'm going to nursing school so that I can boost our income. Assuming I can finish my ADN in 5 years, my kids will then be 16, 13 & 10, I'm hoping to work just a shift or two a week (probably a night shift) to begin with, which would allow us some breathing room. I am hoping I can make it through without taking on additional debt. If that is the case, we'll save half of whatever I make. We homeschool, right about when I graduate, my oldest will be able to begin taking classes at the CC, so they'll get my money for many years to come.

I'm also getting my degree to allow my dh to retire at 55 (we're 40 now). He's an art teacher & he'll be eligible to retire with 80% of his salary at age 55. My degree would allow us to do that, I'll increase my shifts as the kids get older, and when he can retire I'll be the breadwinner for a while. :) He'll be getting out of teaching, which he loves now, before he gets too bitter about the politics. That is priceless.

So, I don't have a purchase list persay, just lifestyle goals, I guess.

Specializes in Junior Year of BSN.

A house...that is ALL mine and I guess my dog's LOL. Then I would love to buy some items that would have no resale value aka Jimmy Choos and Christian Louboutin. But a house is more important I can't be the lady who lived in her shoes.

Well some things on my list are NOT purchases, but here goes:

-make my kids proud:redbeathe

- make my kids proud:redbeathe

- pay off my debts and save up for a HOME TO CALL OUR OWN

- take a cruise with my babies

- buy a nice "newer" car

- have a spa/massage day for my mom and I

- relax and enjoy financial freedom (or just the peace of mind at not having to worry about the "how will I pay for this or that"

-and not have to tell my kids the infamous " sorry, mommy can't _______ right now" FILL IN THE BLANK

- a new wardrobe for us ( I'm about real tired of these d&mn maternity clothes I still wear :crying2:)

- whatever my kids want WITHIN REASON, oh yeah, did I say MAKE MY KIDS PROUD?!:clown:

Good Luck to all of us, and may our dreams not be deferred!:nurse:
