For anyone considering Capella for an MSN...

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Updated:   Published

My Capella MSN course actually begins on Monday, July 13th. My enrollment advisor called and told me that the course actually opened up early (today, Friday-July 11th). I immediately went to the course and read the syllabus and requirements of the first assessment.

I spent about 2-4 hours searching, reviewing, and selecting articles that were in line with my thoughts for the assessment last night, and did a little more research from reputable organizations that I've worked and today, I have just finished my first paper (two whole days before the start of class)! Writing papers have never been a problem for me; I find the research to be the hardest part. I try not to begin the paper on a day that I've gathered research, just so I can give my brain a rest. ? But today, those little last-minute ideas tend to pop up sometimes and are needed to really drive home an idea.

I won't submit the paper just yet because I have a question that I want clarification on first. Once that is answered and I make revisions (if needed), I will submit it and it is on to assessment 2 of 3. I will be done with this first course, which hopefully, will be by the end of the week (long before my estimated date of completion of 07/19/2020), if the other two assessments go as easily as this appears to be going. It helps that I happen to be on vacation until July 20th, too. It will be so nice to have this course under my belt before my vacation is over. ?

I love this thread @BSNbeDONE! All in all, how long did this track take you and how long is the estimated? Is the fee for the preceptor included in the tuition?

I'm surprised how easy it is to complete an MSN with perfect grades at Capella. Have you felt that your MSN actually prepares you to work in whatever setting you chose?

One would think that Capella would make provisions to offer an online practicum experience since the pandemic seems to be the going excuse these da

Teaching/Education is a "hands on" experience. Learning the ropes as a student Educator is a much better experience than be handed a 10 student clinical group (which may not be in your hospital area of choice) and a 3 credit lecture course. Take your time to learn...the semesters can run away with you and soon you are underwater! Hope things are going better now.

BSNbedone, were you able to finish your capstone?

After months and months of waiting for a sister facility to submit the paperwork, I flew across country to begin the last lap 2 1/2 weeks  of the practicum at a large private-sector healthcare facility . When I return home, I’ll be watching the mail everyday for my degree!!

Capella actually did offer a virtual option temporarily to assist its students during the pandemic. Unfortunately, I missed out on it by trusting my employer’s sister facility when they said I could complete my final requirements with them.

The courses took me five months to complete. I’ve been waiting 8 months to begin the capstone, which will start for me (practicum hours) tomorrow morning. My mistake, which contributed to the delay, was in trusting two of my employer’s sister facilities when they said yes.

My advice is to keep looking for sites no matter what is agreed upon because it’s not a sure thing until you’ve received the required documentation to submit with your capstone application. I had to beg for the completed documents to be returned after I was repeatedly told “two weeks” or “by the end of the month”...only to be asked to send them the paperwork again to review. Had I not trusted them, my degree would already be on display in my home.

Requirements have finally been completed! Final grade for the capstone due in three days!! 4.0 GPA, so I’m not worried. So very happy to have this finally OVER!!

Congrats! I'm hoping to start my MSN with Capella in December, but I'm doing Leadership & Administration!
