For anyone considering Capella for an MSN...

Updated:   Published

My Capella MSN course actually begins on Monday, July 13th. My enrollment advisor called and told me that the course actually opened up early (today, Friday-July 11th). I immediately went to the course and read the syllabus and requirements of the first assessment.

I spent about 2-4 hours searching, reviewing, and selecting articles that were in line with my thoughts for the assessment last night, and did a little more research from reputable organizations that I've worked and today, I have just finished my first paper (two whole days before the start of class)! Writing papers have never been a problem for me; I find the research to be the hardest part. I try not to begin the paper on a day that I've gathered research, just so I can give my brain a rest. ? But today, those little last-minute ideas tend to pop up sometimes and are needed to really drive home an idea.

I won't submit the paper just yet because I have a question that I want clarification on first. Once that is answered and I make revisions (if needed), I will submit it and it is on to assessment 2 of 3. I will be done with this first course, which hopefully, will be by the end of the week (long before my estimated date of completion of 07/19/2020), if the other two assessments go as easily as this appears to be going. It helps that I happen to be on vacation until July 20th, too. It will be so nice to have this course under my belt before my vacation is over. ?

Congrats! Love the new name ?

I tried and tried but I couldn’t think of anything, and I said out loud, “coming up with a new name is not my problem”. So there you have it!??

Congrats! I'm hoping to start my MSN with Capella in December, but I'm doing Leadership & Administration!

You’ll love it! Their finance department leaves much to be desired, though, for real!! I followed the advice of my first academic coach and ended up getting kicked out for non-participation. Never heard from that person again! They ‘issued’ a replacement, but I was like, “that’s OK, I got this”. Went on to succeed. For the most part, though, the instructors were great on the two occasions that I had questions. Good luck to you! You’ll love it!

I love this thread @BSNbeDONE! All in all, how long did this track take you and how long is the estimated? Is the fee for the preceptor included in the tuition?

@NurseKayeBSNtoMSN It would have taken me a total of 7 months to complete the program had the first facility that approved my preceptorship not backed out. I completed the coursework in 5 months. Then waited another 8 months before finally accepting the fact the 2nd facility was not going to follow through. So, I reached out to a Capella classmate to ask where she was going, and before the weekend was over, I had a name, phone number, agreement... and plane reservations by the end of the week.

As for as preceptorship fee, that’s between you and your preceptor. My preceptor charged me nothing! But the expense of living cross-country, including flights, hotel, rental car, and meals for nearly three whole weeks cost me thousands! Fortunately, I had been preparing for the worst case scenario as soon as I enrolled with Capella.

VERY IMPORTANT!: Capella only requires that 80 of the 100 hours be hands-on for the MSN specialty that I chose. The other 20 can be applied to research/paper production. Check for the specifics of your  chosen specialty.

I overlooked that little detail and made reservations for 100 hours of hands-on experience, which added to my costs.

The courses took me five months to complete. I’ve been waiting 8 months to begin the capstone, which will start for me (practicum hours) tomorrow morning. My mistake, which contributed to the delay, was in trusting two of my employer’s sister facilities when they said yes.

Wow! Congratulations on completing your MSN!

While you were waiting the 8 months to begin the Capstone, did you have to pay tuition each 12 weeks or did they put that on hold until you actually started your Capstone? Just wondering how billing would work in such situations.

Thank you.

Hello, do anyone have an idea what the MSN leadership & Administration is like?
