Just wondering if anyone has taken the AANP or ANCC FNP CERT exam recently and if so how it was? thanks kelly:)
DO NOT WASTE time or money with Barkley. I took the live review and I have just failed the FNP exam for the second time. I must say I thought the ANCC exam was much easier and had I been prepared for the research type questions, I think I may have passed the second time. But do not waste the money on Barkley. He did say that his notebook was all you needed and that is NOT true...you must review several sources. Good luck....I will pass this thing yet!
I took the ANCC FNP exam in June. Study hard. I passed (first try) but thought it was much harder than the NCLEX exam. I studied Fitzgerald extensively (CD's, latest book of hers). I graduated from what I felt is a great school, had really good grades, but feel a person must be "very prepared" for this exam. I only had a couple of years RN experience; perhaps those with many years of real world experience will feel differently.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies... By the time I read the replies I had already purchased the home barkley review. I called to cancel but the lady swore up and down that they were shipped already. Oh well... I'll try to sell them later if they are worth something. His review book does look more in depth than the average review book out there. I will definately listen to you guys and study from several resources. I have the fitzgerald cd's (2004, though) and her latest review book, the ancc fnp review book and the Hollier questions and answers. I am thinking about buying Maria Leik. Don't know if I am overkilling it though...
I truly do not feel you can "over" prepare for this exam. I resigned my RN position and worked very little "casually" the entire last semester to focus on my clinicals and study for the ANCC exam. I applied to ANCC with a "placeholder" transcript during my last semester of classes (sending in the degree conferral in May and was able to test in June). I am so grateful I passed, and felt that recent graduates may "need" more than "basic" to pass. One has to keep in mind that out of the 175 questions on the FNP exam, 25 are not scored (and the test taker does not know which questions are the "not scored" questions). I guess it is possible this could "skew" one's perception of the difficulty of the exam. I "believe" on the scored questions everyone will get a random set covering the content areas (outline of content areas covered is on the ANCC website) but being "uniformly" consistent among test takers in difficulty.
All that being said, you sound like you are well on your way to a passing exam! I did the 2010 Fitzgerald cd's (Fhea) and her review book (from Amazon), then purchased the latest edition of the Fitzgerald review book (just released in the last couple of months - so now I have 2 editions of the Fitzgerald book), and had the Mometrix flashcards. I was truly too burned out to really make much use of the flashcards - there was just "so much" material. I gave my Fitzgerald materials "a real workout". Do get a good night's sleep before your exam (if a good night's sleep is possible. I was a bundle of nerves, and by all means have a healthy breakfast or lunch. My "options" for times at the Prometric Center were 8:00 a.m. or 12:00 noon (they want you to arrive earlier than your scheduled time) or on Saturday there was available time for 7:30 a.m. I think. Different test centers may have different available times and dates.
Ok, did everyone wait for their letter to register or were you able to use the code given in the receipt of application notice and the first letters of your last name to register. The reason I mention this is someone on another thread stated that they registered for the exam a week before receiving a confirmation letter using the above method. I am trying to schedule my exam.... getting eager to take the exam before I feel like I have forgotten my material.
