FNP CERT EXAM

Published

Just wondering if anyone has taken the AANP or ANCC FNP CERT exam recently and if so how it was? thanks kelly:):crying2:

So sorry to hear that you did not pass. Do not give up, you can do this!!!

I did pass the AANP yesterday, but I felt the exam covered a lot of content that I had not even studied at all. I was nervous, had to do a lot of educated guessing on these types of questions.

I did the Fitz audio review, studied the Fitz book, Leik, and Zerwehk. I spent a lot of time on these books, and did lots of practice questions. I was always doing poorley on the online quizzes, so i dont know if I would recommend spending much time on them. I would spend more time getting to know the BASICS about the other content.

I passed the ANCC today. I am so relieved and overjoyed that it is over. I almost cried when the proctor told me I had passed !!! :lol2:

You are the best! Congrats to you my friend! Best of luck to you! How was it? Lots of theory? Let us know!!

I'm so happy for you! I bet you are anxious to start work as an FNP. I'm still working on trying to secure an FNP position (but getting closer!)

i sit in a couple of weeks and i'm getting super anxious. i just hafta ask... were there tons of questions on random, super-weird diseases? or was it basic treatment stuff? what are your suggestions for studying at this point?

thank you!!

For those of you taking the AANP exam - page 10 of their manual (link below) (actually shows up as page 13 on my computer) shows the breakdown in the number of questions in each grouping. I thought this might be helpful if some of you haven't seen it. Although I took the ANCC exam, it sounds like many of the new grads on this board are taking the AANP exam.

I did find the ANCC exam to be very challenging. Yes, the content outline on the ANCC website shows that half of the test is theory, policy, and research and other half is assessment and management. They mean what they say... many theory, research questions.

to be honest there were some very random questions mixed in. the majority were treatment type questions that you could reason through. I did feel like a lot of the stuff that i focused on for review was not even on the test. I think if you review all the common diseases you will be fine.

Good luck!

Has anyone else taken the ANCC fnp certification exam after March 2010? I am hoping to take it within the next two weeks, but still have not heard back from ANCC.

Whew!!! I have just read all of the posts and I am to sit for the exam (aanp) in 10 days!!! I have been studying the systems for about 5 hrs/day. Doing the review cds and then going over my notes and then taking anywhere from 80-150 questions on it. The scores are all over the place. I then go back and review what I got wrong (whether it be I read too fast, or missed a word, etc)....I thank you all in advance for these posts.I am trying to stsy confident and see the words"PASS" on the paper. I was offered a position contingent on passing this exam. In the state I live one does not have to be board certified, but the company (after I accepted the position) told me I needed to be...talk about "NO PRESSURE" there. The sad part is this would be my dream NP position!!

So please keep the good/bad coming!!

I took the AANP on Sunday morning and passed. I am still pinching myself! :anpom:

Deanna, I think you will do fine on the exam. You sound like you are very well prepared. The most important thing is to try to keep your anxiety level down and make sure you are getting enough sleep - words of wisdom given to me by a wonderful NP on this site, about 3 days before the exam :[anb]:

Don't get discouraged by the practice tests and scores. Just read the rationales for the ones you get wrong so you can learn from them. If you are using a source that only gives the answers and doesn't give rationales, stop using it. My favorite was the CD from the Zerwekh and Claborn book. I must have done at least 10 or 12 practice tests of 175 questions each and still kept getting new questions. The questions that were "repeats" helped to reinforce the information and the new ones were....well...new information to learn. I was getting in the 70s - 80s by the end and I did fine on the exam. Good Luck!:heartbeat

FNP grad and KellyNP:

You two are wonderful!! Thank you for all of your words of wisdom. I just had one of my peers tell me today that she failed the AANC by 8 pts:eek:.....I told her to not get discouraged and to retake the other one. However it got my nerves rattled a little.

The Zerwich book that I have did not come with a cd, so I have been doing questions out of the books and quizzing myself and different diseases and treatment. I have also the Fitz and Wieland review questions. Kellynp- we will pass this exam together and if you want to study together, we [email protected] Email me your address and happy to do so. I am not a premium member so I cannot email anyone a private message.

The hardest part of the test I think is calming down enough to get into the actual test and what they are asking....I have test anxiety already (use to have to sit in my own rm to take exams), and its funny that when you send along your items to register, they will give you more time but to be in your own room it is an extra 200.00 dollars. So I am trying to get use to having earplugs in or my headphones on to be comfortable with it when I have to take the test. Countdown on....9 days!!!:crying2: Thank you again to all the wonderful posts!!!
