Flu Vaccine

Featured Replies

Got mine last week.

Usually I get the flu vaccine and the flu. :crying2:

I never got the flu shot until about 10 years ago. My hubris notion of myself was that I was from good midwestern farm stock, healthy as a horse, never got sick...blahblahblah! True enough til 10 years ago when I got the flu. It was on a Sunday and I sang in church choir for the 3 services, felt great...got in the car to drive home, and by the time I got home, I was burning up with fever and could barely walk inside the house.

Rapid onset, high fever! My first influenza! It kicked my butt and I was off work for a week and not 100% for a month.

Since then, get a flu shot every year:)

THis is always a subject of debate this time of year-it's something people feel strongly about.I got mine-I belive it will help boost my immune system's resonse to attack.I;m hoping the vaccine is more effective then last years-we had several confirmed cases of flu in our LTC and many more suspected., The link did not work for me....,,

I usually don't, but I had to get one for this job I'm applying for.

Got it--get it every year. My husband and kids do too.

I never have gottent the flu nor have I gotten the shot. I do not plan on it either. When my husband and I were dating he had the flu and I did not try and stay away. I never catch what my kids and hubby catch. (Except GI things, I will get those instantly)

I have been saying it every year and still waiting to eat my words.

I am not against the shot but I do not want to try and fix/prevent something that has never

occurred before.

i don't get it because i had a reaction (flushing, hives head-to-toe) to it the last time i got it and with my allergy history i'm afraid to get it again. i have many, many allergies and have gone into anaphylaxis twice. i'm not willing to take the chance that it will cause a more severe reaction this time. my hospital makes us sign a paper stating refusal, proof that we received it elsewhere, or else we have to get it. however, if i hadn't had the reaction, i would definitely get it.

Title of article: Flu shots a tough sell to health care workers

I too feel a flu shot is a must for those in the health care profession. My arm has been really sore for 48 hours or so and I feel a little feverish so I'm hoping I got a good response to the vaccine.

I always get it. A sore arm is much more worth it than risking getting it myself, and possibly bringing it home to my loved ones. Or on the other side, having someone in my family get it and then risk bringing it to work! I see NO valid reason NOT to get one (except in the case of allergy, as mentioned). Just because you've never gotten it before, doesn't mean that you CAN'T get it. While it's not a guarantee that you won't, it's not worth the risk IMO. Even in young people, it can be dangerous!

i always get one. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I get the flu shot for two reasons- I have a past history of very severe asthma AND I'm a healthcare worker. I've never had a bad reaction, and have never had the flu. Got my shot two days ago, and I have to say the nurse who gave it was AMAZING! Not only did I not get a sore arm, but I really never even FELT the injection. If I didn't bleed a tiny bit, I might not have believed I even got it!

As an aside, I also used to get a severe bronchitis or pneumonia at least once a winter until my pulmonologist recommend the pneumovax. I highly recommend it to those who are eligible.
