Flu Vaccine caused the flu of 1918?

My daughter shows at AQHA horse shows. One of our friends showed an article he wrote to the local newspaper. He was saying how the H1N1 is man made by our very own government. ANd that the government is going to force us to take immunizations against our will. BLAH BLAH BLAH:uhoh3:

The only vaccines in use during WWI were for bacterial infections, such as pneumonia, and smallpox (not that they could see the virus, they just knew that cowpox pus protected you from smallpox). Even so, the last US outbreak of smallpox was just in 1947 http://dermatology.about.com/cs/smallpox/a/smallpoxhx.htm.

The military was making strides with vaccination, http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/milmedhist/chapter3.htm , but the vaccinations were primarily for the troops. Nobody brought any vaccines to Malvern, Alabama in 1918....

The first rabies "vaccine" was the early work of Pasteur and someone else who's name I forget. I promise it is the case. I'll see what I can find.

apparently it isnt new....i think the 1970's were mentioned?
I have heard a lot of vaccination conspiracy theories but the flu? New to me, at any rate :) I particularly like all the sky/cloud shots on the source web page. If I had the time and money a PhD in conspiracy theories would be so up my alley!

But even then Pasteur did not know that what he was inoculating against was a virus. He only knew that injecting the rabbit nerve derivative would cure rabies - he had no idea rabies was caused by a virus.

We couldn't see viruses until the invention of electron microscopy in 1931 in Germany.

Actually, I think you will find that Pasteur did know that there was a micro-organism at work because germ theory was his life's work. He even managed to get an attenuated form of the virus. Of course, he wasn't differentiating between virus or bacteria back then -- they were just micro-organisms. Also, he absolutely knew he was inoculating against rabies that was his intention.

Sorry, but I did a year of school in France and as you can imagine Pasteur was a bit of a rock star, scientifically speaking. So you can't study science there without learning this stuff.

You know ... sometimes I worry about the future of civilization when I realize that some people are stupid (mentally unbalanced?) enough to believe all these things just because the "read it somewhere" ... or "some guy said" .... etc. etc. etc.

We need a special kind of tinfoil hat to protect us from those people.

Note: I'm not talking about the OP who had the good sense to check it out and acknowledge the ridiculous nature of the conspiracy when presented with a few facts and some common sense.

I can't remember where I read it at, it was in response to a news story about H1N1...

Some guy was putting up posts about how the novel H1N1 was clearly manufactured in labs in the US as it had been found to have genetic material from different sources, and "that can't happen in nature, only in a laboratory." He claimed that there is no way for bacteria or viruses to jump from species to species without the intervention of guys in white coats cackling evilly over a DNA splicer...blamed HIV jumping to humans on hidden sophisticated labs in rural Africa.

Happily, more intelligent heads put several scientifically based posts up following his, blowing his theory to bits. But you know there are still plenty of people out there that eat that stuff up.

I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the rest of you do BUT some of those posters in that last link proves what I've been saying for years. Darwin was wrong.
