Florida Roll Call ......

Published

Ok - who are you, what do you do, where abouts in Florida do you live (or if you are not in Floirda, what part of Florida do you want to move too), what is your clinical area, you status (CNA, LPN, RN, Student, Whatever) and anything else you might want to add.

Some of you already know me, I lived in Florida for a little over 20 years. An RN, I worked and lived in Sarasota. Went to nursing school at Manatee Community College and also University of South Florida at Sarasota. Great place .... love the beaches and the area is truly a wonderful place. I generally work surgical recovery and while in Florida, I worked in post open heart step down and also worked as a nurse manager.

I am a single dad raising three children (all are now teenagers - whew is this rough!). They are really great kids and I am a very luck father to have them. :uhoh3:

Let's see, where to start? I'm a fairly new RN (second career), and I live and work in St. Pete. Originally from Indiana, my wife (also an RN) and I moved to the Sunshine State 4 years ago.

I really don't care much for Florida this time of year, TOO DARN HOT!!, but I LOVE the winters. I'm content to spend the rest of my life only seeing snow on the Weather Channel!

We've talked about someday doing travel nursing, spending summers up north and coming back here for the winter, but haven't figured out what to do about the house when we leave.

Love allnurses, looking forward to learning new tips and tricks from all of you!

Specializes in NICU, Case Management.

I'm a FL native (Orlando). I've been an RN for 4 years. Graduated from VCC and UCF. Majority of my experience is in NICU. For about a year now I've been in home health. I started in the case management area of home health and currently a Director of Nursing of a new home health agency in the Orlando area. I'm planning on returning school for my MSN in Leadership and Management maybe next year.

MT Rn...I am also for Indiana, Indianapolis to be exact my name is Towanna and I agree with you it is really too hot this time of year. I am a Rn and work at Shands. Nice meeting everyone...... TowannaRN

Hey guys...another NW Floridian checking in! I'm an LPN (2nd career...was a cop..LOL) in Pensacola. Looking to complete a few more co-reqs and enter the LPN-RN program either here or over in Panama City. I worked in the ER as a tech during school and then in the urgent care setting after getting my license. My love is Peds but found it hard to get into this field as an LPN. However, I found home care nursing and love it. I work with NICU graduates that are vent dependant at the very least. Just as quickly as I graduate with my RN I hope to be moving into the NICU...that's what I'm aiming for anyway.

Other than that I'm pretty much a normal guy..married..six, yes I said six, kids and a house payment....LOL! My youngest is 2yrs old and the oldest is 21 and will be coming home from Iraq on Sunday...WOOOHOOOO!!! He is a Marine and we are very proud of him! Out of the six I have only one girl....and yes...I am not ashamed to say I'm wrapped tightly around her little 3 yr old finger! :roll:roll

Hi, I live in Southwest Florida, Cape Coral, to be exact. I am an NICU RN in Ft. Myers, originally from eastern Canada; Newfoundland, if anyone has ever heard of it..... I spent 5 years in Connecticut and 3 in Michigan before finally settling in the sunshine state. I have been here almost 9 years and love it, however I do wish it was less congested. and hurricanes are stressful! I am completing my BSN through Nova Southeastern University , and plan to do a Masters in Family and Mental Health Counseling, as I also work as a pediatric bereavement counselor for my hospital system. I have two kids, a great husband,a golden retriever named Parker, and a 4 year old grandson who is the love of my life. Nice to meet all you fellow floridians.

Hello! I am a 59 year young RNC attending BSN classes at the UNIV of PHOENIX. Working fulltime as a Team Leader for Amerigroup----in the Long term care diversion program. I have tried several different options but I love geriatrics. Do any of you out there have any info on the Phoenix BSN program. Sometimes I feel really old in class. Afew of the students call me mom!! I have 2 sons in Tampa and one in DC and I just hate the thought of moving away from them. But would like to get out of hurricane alley. We live in a flood zone A!

Very stressed right now, oldest son just got married, I just started back to school and work full time...........ugh what have I done to MYself?????

Hi there!

I will finally complete my BSN in April 2 months after I turn 50! I also work full time, have 2 adult children and a 4 1/2 year old grandson who is pretty darn perfect :), and a husband and a dog. Most of my family including my son still live in Eastern Canada, but luckily my daughter and grandson live near me. I understand your stress. I am doing the RN to BSN program at Nova Southeastern University at one of their satellite campuses in Ft. Myers. Four other people from the NICU where I work are doing the program with me, and the other people in my class are awesome. There are 14 of us total, and we do a hybrid--half on line, half face to face classes. Most people are within 5 years of my age, so it is very comfortable. Hey 59 is not old, let them call you Mom if they want to, you don't have to be their mom! Working and going to school full time is overwhelming, but I am learninfg so much, the rewards far outweight the challenges, (although my husband might not agree with me). I encourage you not to move away--we have not had any hurricanes this year, and wherever you go there is some kind of weather nightmare. Good luck, and keep in touch..we all need all the support we can get!
