The diversit program is for people who didn't get in the regular way. Not all people though. Just males and anyone who isn't white.

    Good post FlMomof5.
I couldn't agree more. People speak all the time about how they want racial equality, and everyone to be treated the same. We have a nursing program that only see's our point's and everyone has an equal chance of getting in. The only thing that affects your entrance is your grades. But yet we also have a program that gives special and uneaqual treatment to people based on their race and gender, and isolates them in a completly different nursing program.

The diversity program is more than a program for people who didnt get in the regular it is a SCHOLARSHIP! so yea it does have another perk!

well how exactly does it work? Are there going to be a certain number of the 144 spring spots reserved for minorities and males? Or is this a whole separate nursing program all together? Do I have the chance of getting bumped out of acceptance in place of a minority? I can't find any other info on this program

Its new they just got funded for this starting springterm, they have 24 additional seat reserved for like 100 people competing for the scholarship, even if they got in the regular way they could get in the program for the scholarship perks, they sent something thru the mail but I didnt really pay attention to it since I got in and already had scholarship, they also have attend 4 hour mandatory study sessions every week and also mandatory saturday workshops once a month, all I know is they are in 2 separate sections together, they didnt do the lottery which I thought sucked not fair but oh well!

I honestly didnt even know they were allowing people in that way at first I thought it was just a scholarship but some not all got in that way...

Oh so there are no seats reserved for anyone? They just add 24 extra seats for the minority program?

They are still working kinks out of the scholarship but they will be adding a couple more seats to the program for them, I don't they added all 24 seats since half of them had already earned their seats the regular way, you will learn that this school is very disorganized and make sure you highlight your prereqs and NAT scores because they miscalculated a lot of applicants points this term!!!

Actually, the diversity program took 24 seats away from the 144 that the spring term usually admits. Our numbers in orientation were picked from 120 pieces of paper. SO, wherever you got the information about the additional seats is wrong. That is why the cut off has been so high for the last two semesters.

I got that info from the program director they have to transition more seats for that program and the ones that didnt get in the regular way which were only few got a seat when someone that got in the regular way declined their seat!!!!!!

    New topic,
what type of shoes did everyone get or any suggestions?!?

Its been so high because more applicants are applying with 200+ points the diversity scholarship wasn't in existence for Fall 09. Spring is the first term! Those 24 seats that wouls of been for nights and weekends went to the diversity program

$95 wowzers!!! But if they are comfortable I might have to shell out the $$$! Just to let you know, they do have several skills kits in whenever you decide to get one!!! you work at the Mayo Clinic right?! My daughter's grandmother works there!

Because you won't use them as often as a regular nurse and because you will probably buy new shoes for pinning, I would get something cheap, no more than $50. You can get NurseMates for that much and they are extremely comfortable. Or some Nike's or New Balance.
