I'm probably going to interview at a Florida Hospital branch soon-
Does your Florida Hospital branch pay any more if you have a BSN?
Does anyone have any scoop on what to expect or negotiate during hiring for a new grad at a Florida Hospital (adventist health systems)? (is anything negotiable? is there anything I should be sure is in my contract?)
Thanks for any feedback!

Hi,
I'll be starting at Florida Hospital soon and this is the information I've been given with regard to my salary........
"Starting salary is $19.19 per hour but will be increased next month. Your wage will be adjusted after your orientation training in accordance with experience and specialty."
I have no idea as yet what my "adjustment" will be. I guess I just have to accept the minimum rate quoted for now, and hope my experience will be reflected in the wage offered at the end of my orientation. That said, I'll stand firm and expect to be paid the same as any other nurse with similar experience and competency. To be fair, it DOES say in my contract I will be paid at the same level of American nurses (I'm foreign educated).
Hope this is of some help to you :)

FL Hospital does not pay extra for a BSN, but ORMC does...

This is great information to know as I live in Orlando and am trying to decide which will be the best hospital to work in. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback - more is welcome if anyone else is still reading.

Hey, consider yourself lucky. I'll just say I interviewed at a branch of FL Hosp. and was told $18 an hour, that might increase to $19 (I take might as "when I see it") next month. I think it goes up a little at 6 mos and 1 year (none after orientation). Also poor shift differentials.
Let us know if you go there, if it actually does increase next month! I'm wondering if they tell that to everyone as a recruiting tactic.
I am just skeptical of recruiters r/t past experience.

New pay is supposed to start May 28th..I was just informed at orientation this week. And to my understanding, there is a pay difference for BSN nurses. I work as a nurse tech and will be graduating in August.

At the Fl Hospital I work at, the sign-on bonus is higher for BSN's as opposed to ADN's. I think it's $3,000 for ADN's and $4,500 for BSN's over a 2 yr period. I don't believe the hourly pay rate is any different though.

Does ORMC have sign on bonuses?
I was told that was for experienced nurses, not new grads.
How do you negotiate these things????
At the FL hospital I was interviewing at, HR told me that sign on was $2500 for new grads, $5k for experience, and 10k I think for super high need areas/experience. But FL Hospital does have different divisions so it probably depends on which one you are looking at.
You can search nurse jobs online and sometimes see if the hospital you are looking at is advertising sign-ons.

That isn't really accurate for Orlando. I have worked for Orlando division since Jan 2005 and I was hired at a higher wage because I had RRT experience. I know they pay more if you have a BSN. Also, all current RN staff are getting a 5% across the board pay increase (not including our annual 3%) because they are raising the hiring rate. Should be on our next paycheck (This coming Friday).
Orlando is the best FL hospital division to work for out of the Florida Hospital system. Can't speak for ORMC....
