Florida Hospital Graduate Nurse Program - September/October Start Date

Published

Hi! Is anyone else a new grad applying for the September/October start date for FL Hospital's GN program? I graduated earlier in July and now I'm just waiting until they open the application so I can go ahead and apply.

Has anyone heard how many new grads they usually hire in ICU? That's the area I'm really hoping to get an interview in.

Nifty,

Baptist is my ideal choice for an employer. I did two rotations and I loved the culture there. I saw their GN program will start taking apps next month. I think I'm going to put FH on the back burner for now. I even sent my resume to recruiter at FH Fish and haven't heard anything. After hearing about your experience and horror stories of no techs...I'm seriously rethinking my application. I'm not going to withdraw it but I'm not going to expect much to come of it.

I'm a big fan of the city, but that particular hospital is for profit and I'd rather work for a not for profit but I will take whatever for now.

blue1015, I have heard nothing but good things about Baptist! Hopefully you'll hear back from them soon after you apply! I actually also applied to FH Fish Memorial and never heard anything. I know for a fact that FH Flagler is hiring, but that's in Palm Coast, FL.

I actually used to live in Gainesville, but I don't know much about North FL Regional. I was always more acquainted with Shands. I know that Shands has a GN program, but I don't know anything about it or when it starts.

allerina, have you heard anything else from Florida Hospital about interviews or anything?

I just got a call from FH this morning to interview on a PCU floor. Yay! They're finally moving through applications.

Nifty, they are amazing to work with at clinical. They have a great work culture and I loved it. My grandmother broke her hip and died earlier this year and the people at Baptist were great. The nurses really stood out to me and it felt like they cared about her as a patient.

I think I might put in for Flager if they're hiring. I would love Baptist but I'm not opposed to moving if I need to. What was Gainesville like? I always heard it described as a small college town and not much else. Shands has a GN program but they won't hire you unless you were an employee with them previously or hired in as an LPN or ASN RN. I did my maternity rotation at their maternity clinic and it was...different. If you're looking for ED then you definitely want them since they're a level 1 trauma center.

When do you start at Halifax?

That is great news Allerina! Maybe I'll get a call. So far nothing and it's almost 2 pm. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

I would prefer non profit as well but I'll take whatever I can just to get my foot in the door. I know my first job may not be ideal but it won't be forever. I'm going to put in an app once I get my fast results and see if I passed.

I hope you passed. How did the test go?

I think I passed! It cut me off after 77 questions. Quick results aren't available yet but should be in a few hours so I'm going to check then. :)

I passed! That was the best $8 I ever spent!! I don't think I could wait for the official results tbh. It's too nerve wracking for me. Now if I could find a job that would be even better!

Congrats! I'll definitely be paying for the quick results in a little over a week when I test. :)

You'll definitely be passing. And it's so worth it! :)

I got another automatic email from FH. It says I'm still being considered but I'm not expecting much. When do you go for your interview?
