Florida Hospital Graduate Nurse Program - September/October Start Date

Published

Hi! Is anyone else a new grad applying for the September/October start date for FL Hospital's GN program? I graduated earlier in July and now I'm just waiting until they open the application so I can go ahead and apply.

Has anyone heard how many new grads they usually hire in ICU? That's the area I'm really hoping to get an interview in.

I hope so! I checked again today and it hasn't updated since Friday. I know I'm being obsessive but I can't help it. I'll post it soon as I hear something. :)

Yes, please keep us posted when y'all hear anything! I hope you get a call in the next couple of days!

Have you guys already taken NCLEX?

I'm hoping to hear something soon! My application status was updated when I did the assessment but still says "Under initial review " but if I hear anything I will update. I'm waiting on my ATT also!

Not yet. I'm scheduled for it on August 25th. Has anyone taken it? I'm scared to take it but I did really well on my comprehensive hesi.

I just took it and passed! It's tough, but definitely doable if you prepare well. I used Kaplan to review.

I was going to use them and heard really good things. I kinda chocked on the price though lol. Our school is giving us a discount for it and I think it's $300 for a three day online review. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and sign up for it.

Yeah I've heard it's pretty expensive... I was lucky and our school actually provided the funding for my class to take a Kaplan course. I definitely think it helped. Kaplan questions are very similar to what is on the NCLEX.

I got some bad news today... HR with the hospital that my ED interview was scheduled at called me today and canceled my interview because they already filled the position. I am seriously so bummed. I'm having a hard time understanding why they wouldn't interview all applicants that they've scheduled for interviews and then select from the entire pool of applicants. I think it's pretty unprofessional. And I actually have a friend who also had her interview canceled for NICU and PICU because they said the same thing about having already filled the positions. The whole thing is very frustrating

I'm so sorry to hear that. You applied for the internship, right? Did your friends apply for the residency program? I don't understand why they would schedule an interview then cancel it. It really does seem unprofessional. Now I'm wondering about mine.

How long did it take to get your license after you passed your nclex?

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed, to say the least. I applied through the main GN program, then got called for an interview for EDNIP. My friend did the same thing and just got called for a Peds interview at the children's hospital with PICU and NICU. I just don't understand how they are filling their spots so quickly. Seems a bit strange. And frustrating for those of us who applied to this program really early.

I talked to the lady with HR who originally directed my information to my areas of interest and she said they were still doing scheduling for the downtown Orlando campus for EDNIP so there's still a chance I may get called for an interview. I'm just frustrated and feel like I'm back to square one though. I'll keep you guys posted and let you know what happens!

Also, about your licensing question: it can be a couple of days or a week or 2. It just depends on how quickly the board processes your scores and information. Mine is taking forever for some reason... even though Pearson shows that I passed.

I just talked to the recruiter this morning and she's sent my info to 3 different floors (including an oncology floor that requested my info). I have to fill out the reference form and get that back to them.

Did you apply for the GN or internship? I received a generic email that was the same one I posted about last week. I'm really hoping I hear from the recruiter next week! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
