Florida Hospital Graduate Nurse Program - September/October Start Date

Published

Hi! Is anyone else a new grad applying for the September/October start date for FL Hospital's GN program? I graduated earlier in July and now I'm just waiting until they open the application so I can go ahead and apply.

Has anyone heard how many new grads they usually hire in ICU? That's the area I'm really hoping to get an interview in.

Oh it was! I was kicking myself in the butt for not getting to answer when she first called! But super relieved once I finally heard from her and was able to get going with the whole process. No, I never received anything about a behavioral screening... I did have to submit my four references, but never got a request for any other screenings. Maybe it does depend on the unit or location you applied for.

It's funny because I've always known I wanted to do critical care, but always leaned more toward ICU. Then I started doing more research into ED and, before even applying to Florida Hospital, I started feeling like it may actually be a better fit for me! So we'll see :) I like the idea of never knowing exactly what kind of patients I would be taking care of from one day to the next. But I know the EDNIP is really competitive...

I'm super excited for the interview, but I'm really nervous too! I have no idea what to expect. I'm sure they'll ask a lot of behavioral/situational questions though. I need to start preparing.

I'm sure you'll do fine at the interview. I like the idea of different patients too but the area where we had ED was in the middle of the city but not busy at all. It was kind of disappointing tbh. I applied for the grad nurse residency not the EDNIP which probably explains the difference.

I have heard that they give you case studies and ask for s/s, tests, medications and prioritize duties. When do you go to the interview?

Thanks, I hope you're right! I've heard similar things about the structure of the interviews with testing your clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills. I just hope I don't freeze up!

My interview is a week from today, so next Wednesday. Then I guess if that goes well, I'll hopefully be invited back to interview with the educator/manager.

Im just worried because EDNIP is the only area that's contacted me for an interview so far, so if for some reason I didn't get offered the job, I hope there's still a chance that I'll be contacted by another unit. Since I also applied for ICU. I guess we'll see!

Everyone post if you get an interview set up! Maybe we can help each other prepare haha

I'm hoping someone will follow up with me about my assessment with a phone interview and that I'll get to schedule a interview on the floor.

I'm sure you are going to hear from HR soon! I get the impression sometimes it takes them a little while to contact people. Did you let your practicum floor know how interested you were in working there? They may have already requested your info. If they have, when you talk to HR, they should be able to see if any units already have interest in you :) I'm sure you're going to get the floor you want!

Yes, I told them I would love to work there multiple times so maybe they did already pull my info. That would be so awesome!

I went to a hiring event a few months ago and, when I talked to HR, she told me that there were some units that had already requested that my application/info be sent over to them. So I think once you hear from someone with HR, they should be able to see if your practicum unit has requested info about you and it should move quickly from there! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :)

Do you guys think FL Hospital weighs GPA heavily when they select people for the program?

My application was updated today but it still shows under initial review. I took the behavioral assessment on Tuesday. Maybe I passed it? Has anyone gotten a call after the assessment? And good luck to everyone! :)

I hope you guys hear something soon! Update us when you do! :)

This is the email I got this morning. My application stills says under initial review. So...this is good?!

Thank you for your application for the September and October GN positions. We realize that you may have already been contacted regarding a GN position, but want to be sure to keep you updated. We are currently in the process of reviewing all applications. Due to this we are unable to respond to your application status requests by phone or email. If your application states ‘In Selection Process', ‘Under Initial Review', or ‘Completed' please be aware that you are still being considered. If selected to move forward in the screening process you will be contacted by the final acceptance date. We request that you wait to be contacted, if selected.

Sincerely,

Human Resources

Florida Hospital

I got the same e-mail. So as long as your status still says one of those that the e-mail specified, you're good to go!

I got the same email too! There are probably just a lot of applications so it's taking them time. I bet we'll hear this week.
