Hi! Is anyone else a new grad applying for the September/October start date for FL Hospital's GN program? I graduated earlier in July and now I'm just waiting until they open the application so I can go ahead and apply.
Has anyone heard how many new grads they usually hire in ICU? That's the area I'm really hoping to get an interview in.
So you have an interview for Neuro ICU and for surg/tele? That is awesome!! Congrats! What campuses?
My friend that interviewed (& was hired) for Medical Oncology/PCU said she pretty much just have behavioral type questions. Ex: why did you become a nurse? most memorable patient? what made you interested in FL Hosp?...very general questions. You are interviewed first by HR and then go meet nurse mgr & nurse educator for part II of the interview. Still very relaxed, ask about past work experience and clinical experience but that was it.

I have a phone interview with neuro ICU next Wednesday and surgical tele on Friday via Skype. Neuro is with Orlando campus on Rollins and surgical tele is Altamonte. I would prefer surgical since it is for sure nights but I'll take what I can get.
I'm wondering how the second part of the interview will go since I'm doing telephone and Skype. Maybe I'll have to go in for that part. Did your friend meet HR and the nurse mgr in the same interview? Have you had your interview?
Awesome! Orlando Main is great and yes I interviewed and was offered a position on Med/Surg at Altamonte. I'm interviewing on the Ortho unit at the Winter Park location though on Friday, so depending on how that goes, I may be going with the Ortho unit....I have a passion for Ortho! We will see how Friday goes :) All the parts of my interview were on the same day. From what I heard during my interview, I believe that you will have all parts in your skype interview as well! :)

I guess this might be a dumb question to ask but if they offer a position then can you accept but change if a different unit offers you a position? I would like to find out if neuro is nights but I don't want to chance losing surg tele if I have to accept right then and there. Did you get to do an ortho rotation in school? We spent half a morning on that floor and nothing happened so I never got to see anything.

What kind of questions did they ask you for med/surg? And did they offer it to you at the end of the interview or the next day?
My preceptor/final practicum was on an Orthopedic unit :) They will more than likely not immediately offer you the position during the interview. After the interview, probably within 24 hours, you will call and be offered the position so you can tell them that you would like time to think. I was offered about a hour after the interview, my friend was offered the day following her interview. You can probably call and ask if it is nights or not though. If you are offered a position, but are still waiting to interview for another position, then I would not "accept" just say that you need time to think about things/etc. If you accept an offer, I do not think you will be able to retract that if you decide to go with the other position.
That's what I'm worried about doing. I emailed the HR person that contacted me to set up the interview to see if it was nights and I haven't heard back. The good/bad news is the interview is on Friday morning so that will give me time to obsess over it! Did you accept the ortho offer or did you tell them you needed time to think? I heard you had 24 hours to accept it and that was it.

I have an interview for surg/tele. Did your friends tell you how it went? I'm super nervous and don't want to blow it. Thanks!
