Flag Staff Medical Hospital RNs to vote....

Nurses for nurses.

NO, they're too busy looking out for themselves. Nurses are just how they finance that.

Timothy ... you have some legitimate criticisms of unions but, this is going too far. CNA is NOT just out for themselves. They got the first ratio law passed in this country which benefits 80 percent of the nurses in California who do NOT belong to a union and who do not pay union dues.

If CNA only cared about themselves, they'd negotiate ratios in their contracts for their membership ONLY and would never bother to pass a law that benefits every nurse in this state. A law ... BTW ... which took them five years to pass, and that CNA had to spend tons of money defending in court multiple times for the benefit of ALL California nurses, union or not.

I wish you would talk to some travelers who've worked both states. The patient loads they get in Arizona are much higher than what they get in California because of that law.

Yes, unions have their flaws, as do all organizations. But let's give some credit where credit is due here.

I agree with you. It was needless hyperbole.

The answer is a strong Labor Union my friend..... :yeahthat:

And what if we get a strong labor union? Are they going to agree with CNA or Hawaii's unions? My point was, how do we ALL unite. All nurses in America. If we all got together in unions, we won't all agree on the same issues.

Unfortunately, achieving a uniform/national consensus on all nursing issues is nearly impossible. Just look at the diversity of strongly held beliefs on this board. But uniting around key issues - pay, benefits, and working conditions - is much easier. That is why unions have a national organization (unite around key issues) and "locals" - where contracts are negotiated on the local level.

Forgot to say - so the answer to uniting divergent places is still a union. National organization handles policy position while locals negotiate based on specifics to that place - hospital ownership, state laws, etc. Most strong unions have both strong national and local chapters.
