2018 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi all,

I've been reading up on the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program and looks like in past years, threads have been started for the yearly application process. I'll be applying as a Staff RN (non-faculty) working at a DSH with an HPSA Score of 16. Not sure of my DTI percentage yet. Hoping to connect with others that will be applying to the program next month and we can all share our updates here. Best of luck to everyone!

Do you need to enter your loans manually if some of your loans will not be eligible (as in, those loans were for a business degree, not nursing)

I read the program guidance and it says that prequsite courses acknowledged by the nursing program are eligible for repayment. Did interpret that correctly?

What is your occupation? Just wondering b/c I know 50% of funds are dedicated to NPs. This is my first year applying and I am so anxious. HPSA score of 17 and DTI 190% with fingers crossed!!

Yes I interpreted that the same way.

Does anyone know when they start letting us know? I know they have up until Sept to tell us but I was wondering when they start. I am a nurse practitioner with HSPA score of 17 with a DTI of 190%. My odds are good, but I have no idea how they decide with all of the applicants they get per year. I'm nervous!

Good question. This will be my first year applying. Will they let you know what your DTI ratio is officially? I'm concerned I'm not figuring it the same way they may be.

The start letting people know in Aug/Sept. Those not picked find out in the first couple weeks of Oct. They also do credit checks in the first couple months after the apps close. Good time to check is around June/July from one of the free credit agentcies. I had a credit check last June, though I wasn't picked. Last years stats were RN HSPA score 17 and DTI of 166%... There's years stats are much the same.

Hey all, just joined.

I wish the government released the DTI ranges that received the award in previous years. This would likely save some of us the time of applying and anguish of waiting!

Anyone know of these stats existing?

Just applied 2nd year, I think i made a few mistakes last year, #1 my drivers license was not appropriate I needed my passport or birth certificate. Not sure it i did that my DL last year. Make sure its all in PDF forms. Just a few things I had to re-review and fix a few uploads.

RN D/I around 190% HPSA 17

I see people with lower D/I rewarded, or lower HPSA's but each year the reward rules change a little. One year they focused on the HPSA, last year as long as you were in Tier 1 it went by D/I. I think there are just little errors they find maybe who knows. This year looks about the same as last year, its more about the D/I. I had 2 credit checks last year and still not reward. Just wish they would not pull my credit twice if i am not a finalist

Did you or other NP's apply for the other grant also, I am finishing my FNP Certificate and plan to apple to both, this one is more money, but i will take the 50K of course if my chances are better!! I am applying now as an RN, D/I 180%, HPSA 17.
