I was wondering if anyone out there can let me know if they are first-time passers of the CPNE? A work-mate and I who are LPNs are under the gun to get our RNs and are studying now. We heard some negatives about being able to pass the CPNE the first time, so it's had us worrying. I got some reassuring responses from a couple of people but would like to have an idea of how many in this forum have passed the first time? I'll search for tips and info closer to time to take it, but for now just having some solid idea of numbers would be helpful! Thank you in advance!

You already know I did. :) Another statistic -- the pass rate for the CPNE in 2009 was 62%. This is from the EC School of Nursing catalog (page 17). However, I don't know if that's first-time, or just overall (seems likely to be the latter, though).

Hi there! Thanks for the question....gives me an opportunity to toot my own horn. I passeed the CPNE on the first attempt. The key is to KIS: KEEP IT SIMPLE!! You'll understand that phrase and here is more as you become CPNE-eligible. I had such a wonderful experience there even though it was short-lived. And I am definitely no bookworm.....completely opposite in that I hate to read. But Excelsior College was.....addicting. Their EPN (Electronic Peer Network) was overloaded with support from other students, near and far! You have just GOT to do it....you'll love it! Like I said in an earlier post, though, they're not giving away any degrees. You will definitely earn it but you will have fun doing it once you establish your circle of friends, most of whom you will never meet. Go for it!!

Hi Lynda ,
You're another inspiration from EC!!! Reading your last couple posts has renewed my excitement of being CPNE--eligible and motivating me to be successful on my weekend! Kudos!!! :yeah::yeah:I do believe we can all do this. Thanks for your testimony!

I agree with Annette! What a positive, uplifting story! Thank you for sharing, I really enjoy the encouragement. I am testing Nov 4 in Madison. We have a couple of girls leaving for NY to test this weekend too!!

I passed the first time, no repeats.
I also did NOT attend a workshop or any other nonsense. I bought Rob's CPNE dvd's and practiced and had Skype sessions with a friend.

I passed on first try. I lived the study guide and sheri taylors online workshop for about 2 months. I really recommend her workshops. I did not do any hands on workshops. I practiced on my family at home. The EPN and allnurses.com was huge in terms of support and info for me. Im grateful to have achieved this so far. I do believe with the Excelsior ADN program, that its realky what you put into it and how hard you are willing to work. Many people think of it as online schooling, but they dont realize that we really do nothing online and do not attend any classes. We teach ourselves the info and test out of each test. Thats huge in my opinion and is a testament to those who do complete the program! With so much goung on in our lives, to then teach yourself and pass is a major accomplishment in my opinion! Good luck!!
Thank you, Everyone so far, for responding. This is very reassuring. Even though my work-mate and I have not done nursing-unit acute care nursing for several years (me for 19 and she for 10 minimum), I think we've got a good chance to work something out to get some "exposure" in the months to come. Maybe we'll have to practice on each other and family, like dslpninla did!
Oh, and to SweettartRN, if you live in the Detroit area and need an addiction medicine job, look up my brother, an addiction medicine physician! (I'll give you his name if you would want it).

I passed the CPNE on the first try also in Madison WI, 2008. I memorized that study guide and used the EC flashcards and skill set bag that you can purchase from them. Practice, practice, practice!! I did not attend any workshops or use any other sources, just studied that study guide like it was the bible! Just keep focused and remember to stop and think when you get nervous. You can do it too:yeah::yeah:Good luck and go get it done! You will be so happy when you do!
Thank you, cometnurse for your encouragement and information!
New question: Anyone working with Rue and hear from Excelsior about applying before 10/1/11 to avoid new added course requirements? I just did apply, got the preliminary acceptance with a list of those courses I'd still have to take, and the new additionals were still added in! I'm now sure if I should pursue contacting Excelsior and ask, "What gives?", or not. Any advice?
