Having worked nights, I'd rather work days and get the pay (differential) cut to boot. I am glad to know that some are happy on nights. We need you. And day people, treat your night people with respect and gratefulness, they deserve it!!

I give all the utmost respect to the nurse who work days. You all need the shift differential due to all the things you put up with. I love night shift for a number of reason. I am a night owl and dont have any children. I must say if I had to go to days or find a better job that require days I will do it. Im just a little flexible. I would take everything in consideration.

I hear you. I was asked to take a day position and I am having to consider it. We work 8's so 9 days a pay period vs 6 for 12hr shifters. Here is the thing I have to consider: full time days which is really stressful and having to drive 45 mins each way five and four times a week; but I get to see my husband every day (now I hardly see him, I get up at 2130 and he is often asleep, and I get home at 0830 and has left for work). I only get two days off a week (which turns into one after I flop over) OR I could stay on nights (with the people I really get along with and it is a lot more low key) and work part time and have more time off...pay difference between full time days and part time nights is only 133/pay check.

Real nice encouragement for the OP. And this is your very first post?????

All I Said was you will start to care about your sleep more...wow you people are a tough crowd.....my first and last post. Nurses DO eat their young..real nice

Wrong. Your true friends will figure out a time with you to meet. It may be breakfast now instead of supper. If you keep to your schedule the entire time your on night shift you sleep 6-8 hours. The same as if you were on first shift.

Drinking plenty of water is a great tip! Helps keep you awake. Ecspecially later on in the shift when you want no caffiene.

Best of luck! Am cheering for you!

Also have worked 7 years on night shift total.

Tell me what "friend" is gonna meet you for breakfast when they themselves are on their way to work

I was not trying to be mean. Read some of my other posts to get a sense of what I have to say and how I say it. BUT, in reference to what you just stated above, it was NOT "all you said". This is what you posted:

Good luck on your night shift..At first it's kinda fun and you really feel hyped up about a new schedule. But as time progresses..it will change you. You will start to lose your friends and care about sleep more than anything. Please keep us informed.

To me that is just very discouraging to someone who was looking for encouragement.

PS: I have also noticed that was evidently not your last post!!

My friends who get up a hour early to meet at Mcdonalds? Stop acting like you quite your life if you take a night shift job. Its exactly the same. You make time for friends, don't leave them if they want to improve there life or get a new shift.

Hey CvpRn...yeah some of us are tough but dont let this be your first and last post because of it. Some nurses do eat their young but dont let them eat you. Stay on board. We all are in this together.:nurse: Hope to see you post soon.

I know when I get off in the morning my boyfriend and friends had met to eat. Everyone life is different. Friends will make time for you no matter what.

Why would she lose her friends? Doesn't she still have 4 nights OFF per week to see them? I am not getting it? I also don't work nights so there might be something I am missing. I would think if she worked 5 nights a week there may be an issue, but if she only works 3 nights then whats the problem?

I'm not trying to argue.. I am really just curious!
