First Day of Nursing School

Published

I wanted to start this thread again. I've seen so many posts about first days and have lived vicariously through those posts. Now, with that first day steadily approaching, I'd like to start my own thread. I start school on the 21st of August, and I thought that I'd go ahead and start a thread so that it will be good and ready for that first day post. As of now, I have pretty much everything done except I have to have my second PPD read on Monday. I welcome comments from everyone. After all, we are all in this together!

You are kidding me??????? Pay for a syllabus????? :wideyed: I have never, ever heard of that. That just burns my hide. Talk about sucking every dime out of students that they possibly can. Are these community colleges? Universities? Diploam Program? Tech schools?

Community college. But I can understand why they do it. Like I said, my syllabus is over 100 pgs long and plans everything out for us. Paper & ink isn't cheap :p

I am really glad my college does not charge for the syllabus. I guess they decided that after all of the money for tuition, books, uniform, and required supplies they can supply the syllabus. That is interesting that colleges are doing that- I had never of schools charging for a syllabus before.

That being said, charging more than the cost of paper and ink sounds outrageous.

I think that our syllabus is the size of a regular textbook. At least, for that price, I am hoping so.

I see that some of you guys and gals start way before I do...so please let us know how it goes (and know that we are living vicariously through you until our first day!). Also, please feel free to vent or just talk about your feelings. After all, we are all here for each other. Congrats to everyone!

Then why not just email it and let the student's print it. Sounds like nickle and diming to me

What a great discussion topic! I am too beginning nursing school in the Fall and I am beyond excited and nervous! I do not know anybody in my classes so I am hoping to make some good friends. I have been searching the web for some good study tips but haven't come across anything solid. My clinicals are 4 hours a day, only one day a week for the first semester.

Anyone here going to the MCC Nursing Program in NJ?

Goodluck to everyone in their first semester!!! : )

Maybe I am just lazy, but I would rather pay $20 and get a syllabus that is already color coded, formatted and hole-punched than have to print 100+ pages and use the ink/worry about organizing it :p

I agree, I'm glad it's all done and organized and put together for me. I just had to throw it in a binder and read it.

I'm excited! My orientation is Sept. 27th =) can't wait

As far as white non-see through pants, I have found a brand I really like. The Women's Cherokee Work Wear white cargo pants are great! All of the pockets make it easy to carry essentials, as well as adding an extra layer of fabric to make the pants thicker. I start my program on the 19th, I'm terrified and excited at the same time! Good luck to everyone!

Yeah, I agree. In a begrudged way I can almost understand charging a nominal fee if they are a hundred pages long front and back, but charging more than the cost to print them seems like robbery to me. I am interested to see how my school does it. No syllabus nor mention of a syllabus has been provided to us yet. Orientation is Monday the 12th so I guess we shall see.
