I've been going through various hospital websites with little luck. I have finished my first semester of school. How do I find a NAP position?

Very correct. You will rarely find NAP positions on the hospital employment websites. Usually students get them through connections they make during their clinical rotations. A nurse manager likes you and bingo you get a NAP position. All the hospitals have them. Usually they are in Med Surg, but some places you can get PEDS and critical care. At sunrise you can get PEDS ER, at Siena they have med surg and peds, and sometimes L&D. I'd ask your clinical instructors if they have any connections and maybe can get you an interview somewhere for a NAP too.

My clinical was actually at Valley. A few of us spoke with the nurse manager about positions but she said they did not have any open. How do I find out who the manager is at the other facilities?

I'm moving to Las Vegas in Feb 09 and I can give you some advice I got at an HCA hospital here in KC, Mo. They advised me to apply for PCT or PCA position and then once they got the application and saw I was in school they just automatically gave me a NAP position instead. Don't know if that will help but that's what the HR dept told me to do and I got a job within a week after. Good Luck
Call the main hospital number and ask to speak with the nurse manager of _____ unit or floor. They will connect you or connect you with that person's receptionist.

St. Rose DeLima Intermediate Care (IMC) unit hires NAPs. Call the DeLima main number and ask for the manager of ICU/IMC. She is wonderful. Also, from what I remember, Med. Surg at DeLima hires NAPs.

Apply to the hospitals and then tell your nursing instructors that you applied. I could not find a NAP job, mentioned it to a few instructors and sure enough one knew a unit manager and put in a good word for me. Being a nap helped me be a better nurse.
NAP = Nurse Apprentice, In Nevada you can be an apprentice after your first semester of nursing school
One more thing to consider, being a NAP can make or break you when it comes time to get hired as an RN. They do look at your work performance, attendance, ability to get along with coworkers, etc...when you graduate. It is a job where you need to be on your A game so you don't burn your bridges.
