Nurses Disabilities

I just have to let it out. I've been dreamimg of the day I would get a chance at the LPN to RN Bridge Program. All along since my disability I have taken pre-req's on and off (depending on my flare-ups) at my own cost.

I had a meeting today and because of my motivation to continue somehow, somewhere in the nursing field, I have become eligible to complete my goal. Aside from my minimal SSDI I qualify for educational grants that will help me get through this. I'm amazed that there are programs that are directed towards the just and motivated disabled individuals; and that I wasn't perceived as looking for a handout, rather A JOB!

These grants are not school-based, I turned in a FAFSA and was denied any help other than over the top student loans. Keep the faith. It took me 6 years to get this far.

Wishing the best for all of you and your dreams.

Ahhhhhh Tweety,

WOW that it so great! I am so happy for you. How long is the program, full time? Can you still work? I know you will see this to the end, and your perserverence will pay off! You should be very proud of yourself. You go girl!!!

Caymen,

It will be full time:uhoh3:after i finish up the latof the prereqs. I went into a laryngeal spasm tha t would not quit 3 weekends ago. I can just see me carrying around my neb and using the lidocaine to stop them at school.lol

I'm concerned about the pace, (more activity, more reaction respiratory wise) but after reading other posts of successfully meeting the challenge, I feel I can too. I'll find a way!

Thank you!

Congratulations Sharona.I am on SSDI too and was told that my money would be cut off if I went back to school. The thought being that if I could sit at a desk all day I could sit at a job.Never mind that I'm not qualified for any type of desk job without some schooling or training.Floor nursing is just to hard for me anymore to be able to do it full time and I miss that full time money.

Hey You,

Thank you. I see you live in the Philly area. Check out the PA Workforce Jobs and make an appt to see one of their counselors. I was medically discharged from my job (illegal), so I had collected unemployment, and that is how I found out about the MN Workforce office.

There usually are many locations throughout the state. Bring your disability papers in and any other documentation and see if they can help re-train you to enable you back into the job force.

I know every state is different, but --------It's Work The Try------ right?

Keep us posted and I wish you the bery best and good luck for your future.:balloons:
