Hello!
I am a Registered Nurse here in the Philippines. I am planning to take NCLEX exam for Nevada. Can someone please help me with the CGNFS-CES application process? The thing is, I don't know where to start.
Is there someone here who already finished the application for Nevada NCLEX?
Another question... My family (mother and 3 sisters) are already living in Las Vegas, one of my sister wants me to take the California NCLEX exam instead of the Nevada exam. This is because of the said "reciprocity" for those who have California License.
Is it really a good idea to take her advice and to take california exam? Will it be easier for me to work in Vegas if I already have the Cali license?
Please do help me.
I really want to go there ASAP.
Thank You:yeah:

There is no quick way to come here especially if you haven't already got a work/immigrant visa. Personally if you plan on working in Nevada then you are better applying to them from the start because you may still have to meet their requirements even when endorsing. To endorse you need a license and Ca will not give you one without a SSN. Look at what they require for foreign trained nurse and if they require CES you need to go to CGFNS website and I would recommend you download the forms to complete and post to them. We do not recommend Ca for initial license as they will not issue a license without a SSN and will destroy your file in 3 years unless you ask for a extension and they grant it. All states have reciprocity with NCLEX but you still have to meet license requirements for foreign trained nurse.
Remember you are applying for license not NCLEX, NCLEX is just a part of the process
Thank you for the replies. :)

hello! i am here in vegas. just go to the cgfns website and then there is a downloadable instruction for ces application. the steps are very easy. it took less than 2 months for my ces report then less than 2 weeks to receive my eligibility then 25 hrs for my att.
hello spongebob6286... I read your pm. I can't send a personal message. How can I send a PM to you?
Anyway, I already read the cgfns instructions... correct me if I'm wrong...
1. I have to fill-up and submit the cgfns validation forms to my school and to PRC. (The school and PRC will be the one who will send it to cgfns-ces)
2. I have to submit my application form directly to CGFNS CES.
*Which should they receive first? My application or those files coming from my school and from PRC?
3. When will be the right time for me to send my application form to Nevada BON?
Thanks!

You need 15 or more posts to be able to send a pm.
Submit your application at the same time you send your forms to PRC and you should be OK. Takes approx 4 months to get CES back as long as everything is received in a timely manner so would say send your Nevada application towards the end of your 3 months of waiting
Hey guys,
Thank you for all the replies.
Is it advisable to take California NCLEX insted NEVADA NCLEX?
My mom and sisters are already in Vegas...
But my sister wants me to take California NCLEX because of the "reciprocity" thing.
will it be easier for me to follow what she wants?
I know Nevada NCLEX can be very time consuming and it takes a lot of processes... But is it really good to be a NEVADA LICENSED NURSE?

I don't think your sister knows what she's talking about.
You need to get licensed, where you're going to work. California does NOT issue a licence without a SSN, so no endorsing possible. An why pay the fee twice???
And why are you asking if it's good to be a Nevada licensed nurse??? What do you mean with that??
Your sister really hasn't got a clue. As I said before NCLEX is reciprocity coversl all states as it is a national exam. You are better just applying to the Nevada state as that is the state you want to work in and even if you went to Ca state first you would still have to pay Nevada to work and still meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse. You are better just applying to Nevada from the start. Do you have a visa yet because if not then you are still looking at years waiting so no need to rush?

Silverdragon102 has a very good point. Acquiring a U.S. Visa should be a priority. As I have previously mentioned in this site, my nephew passed the NCLEX but no job. Lucky for him, their 22-year wait for U.S. immigrant visa has become current, due to retrogression he otherwise would have to wait for several more years for a chance of getting a U.S. visa as a nurse.
On a related topic, I go to Las Vegas once about every 2-3 years although I honestly don't gamble in the casinos. I go there to see the new mega casinos that open almost every year, and to pig out in the buffet restaurants! A few years ago a Las Vegas hospital advertised in a nursing magazine about their free Continuing Education class to be held in their hospital. If my memory serves me right the name of the hospital is Valley Medical Center and I gathered that this is one of the best hospitals in the Las Vegas area. For this reason I flew to Las Vegas with my wife in tow.
The RNs who went there got a pleasant surprise that it was actually a recruitment event and we all received lots of "freebees" instead of just a free continuing education class. I went home with a T-shirt with the hospital's logo, a coffee mug, pens, etc. plus free snacks. We were also given an educational tour of the hospital and were encouraged to ask questions. They were very nice to the visiting RNs and the nice experience left a lasting impression in me.
Lots of luck to you. Hope you could join your mom and sister asap. By the way, I'm from "California" and not "Cali". We Californians don't call our state "Cali"... thought you'd want to know that.

Thank you very very much...
I already talked to my sister and mom. We all got into terms that I will get the NEVADA NCLEX.
what will be the best thing to do to be able to get a visa?
I read the US VISA BULLETIN ... they have this 3 years non-immigrant visa for nurses... Is it ok to apply for that Visa?
I have no problem of waiting for my Visa to come. I just want to apply ASAP so that I won't be wasting any time.
Thank you all for your replies...
