Filipino nurses in Las Vegas

Published

Hello! :D

I am a Registered Nurse here in the Philippines. I am planning to take NCLEX exam for Nevada. Can someone please help me with the CGNFS-CES application process? The thing is, I don't know where to start.

Is there someone here who already finished the application for Nevada NCLEX?

Another question... My family (mother and 3 sisters) are already living in Las Vegas, one of my sister wants me to take the California NCLEX exam instead of the Nevada exam. This is because of the said "reciprocity" for those who have California License.

Is it really a good idea to take her advice and to take california exam? Will it be easier for me to work in Vegas if I already have the Cali license?

Please do help me.

I really want to go there ASAP.

Thank You:yeah:

Hi Daly City RN:blushkiss

Thank you for correcting me about that "cali" thing.

Anyway, you mentioned on your post... about the "U.S. immigrant visa has become current"??? Someone also said that to me.

DO you mind explaining to me what does this means?

My friend passed the NCLEX for New Jersey. The have a family friend who owns a agency in the US. She was petitioned by the agency last Dec. 2007 and up to now, she doesn't have her visa yet. She mentioned to me that if she applied for her visa now, she can easily go abroad because of the U.S. immigrant visa has become current.

What did she mean by that?

What should I do or what type of visa should I apply for?

The visa Daly City is talking about for his nephew is family based and they have already waited 22 years for it (that is how I read it) Unless you meet criteria for a family based visa will have to in most cases apply for a immigrant visa (GC) and currently there are none. If you look at the visa bulletin nurses for the most fit into the EB3 category and at the moment these are unavailable and if you look at the previous months dates they was processing 2003 so your friend who is ahead of you still has a long wait. Retrogression has been ongoing since Oct 06 and that means there are many more in front of you in the queue

You may want to consider another country as you will have a long wait ahead of you

what other country can you suggest?

Depends on what you want. Many are looking at Australia and Canada now. EU will be hard

Hi silverdragon.

Thank you for your reply. I'll be checking those 2 countries you've mentioned. Thanks again.

Silverdragon102 is right again! I petitioned my brother 22 years ago and his children are included in the petition. Yes, this is a family-based U.S. immigrant petition. My nephew can't wait to get here to America and I can understand that.

It was so much easier and quicker for my generation of Filipino nurses when we came to the U.S. in the 1970's. And we didn't have NCLEX back then, what we had were individual state's nursing board exams. There were rumors that California's was the toughest one to pass, whether that was true or not, I can't say for sure.

I think you wouldn't encounter any problem finding an RN job in the Las Vegas area unlike where I live. In the San Francisco Bay Area salaries of RNs have gotten so high compared to other nursing salaries in other parts of the U.S. that so many RNs have moved here from all over the U.S., and from abroad for that matter, that most nursing job vacancies have been filled. Don't worry, there is still a nursing shortage in the U.S., and once this so-called "Great Recession" is over, many U.S. hospitals will start hiring RNs once again. (Many Licensed Vocational Nurses' jobs in acute care hospitals in the SF Bay Area are being eliminated. Hospitals are switching to an all-RN staffing)

Many RN salaries here in the SF Bay Area start at around $40/hr. in acute care hospitals (I think they are called tertiary hospitals in the Philippines). If you are an RN with enough job seniority you could easily earn more than $50/hr. and if you work the night shift you could earn more that $60/hr. with benefits, provided you have enough job seniority.

Here in California we pay federal and state income taxes. In Nevada where you plan to move, residents don't pay state income tax. That's good!

Is your mother a U.S. immigrant or a U.S. citizen? Has she petitioned you? Due to retrogression, a family-based petition should be explored at the same time.

If I were you, I will do self-review while waiting for my U.S. visa. I passed the California state nursing board on my first try because I studied my review books over and over and over! I studied them from end-to-end SEVERAL times. By the 4th. time around, I already knew the answer to a review question that I was just beginnig to read! And remember, they give you four possible answers to each exam question asked. Quickly eliminate the two obviously wrong answers and you are now left with just two answers to choose from. This increases your chance of picking the right answer.

Good luck to you. Hope you will get your U.S. visa and pass the NCLEX and get your state of Nevada nursing license!!!

Hi Daly City RN

Yes my mother is already US citizen.

I was petitioned before. But we had a problem and got denied. That is why I am trying new things to go there.

Thank you for all the info.

I was loosing hope until I read your message.

I will try my best to pass the NCLEX exam.

Thank you very much.

Good luck to you.

Will it be faster for me to get a Visa if my mom will find me a US based agency who can petition me for NON-IMMIGRANT VISA as a Nurse?

Kindly read the other posts in this forum regarding immigration. I'm not really an expert on this subject matter but I'm sure one of the moderators will be able to shed light on this. From what we know for sure, agencies don't give U.S. visas, the U.S. Embassy does. Don't believe everything what the agencies tell you and be very careful before you sign a contract.

Retrogression for foreign nurses has been in effect for several years now, and from what I gathered in this forum the wait for foreign nurses to get a work-related U.S. visa is 5 or more years.

The only hope some people have said is that if the U.S. Congress will allow more visas to be given to foreign nurses thus shortening or ending the retrogression. Whether that that will actually happen is the 64 million dollar question. As you know very well, the U.S. is suffering from its worst economic recession in 70 years, and allowing foreign workers to enter the U.S. is probably not a top priority at this point in time.

It will still take several years. As Daly City mentioned it is the government that issues the visas not the agency. You will join the queue like everyone else. If the agency says they can get you over quicker look into how and why.

To all who answered my questions... Thank You Very Much!!!

i dont understand if your family is in vegas why would your sister want you to take nclex in ca instead? why take it in vegas since nclex wont change wherever state you take it.
