filipino to migrate in Canada.... what to do to become a RN?

Published

i am new to this forum. i am a r.n. in philippines and will migrate in canada (vancouver). i haven't actually practiced my profession as a nurse in hospital setting instead as a company nurse.

actually i don't know have an idea  as to what to do to become a r.n. in canada.

should i need to take up another how many years of nursing in canada?

what should i do? kindly help me please!! thanks a lot.

It is not as much as a second courser program, but that the appropriate courses were completed and in a timely fashion. Not two years rushed thru in 9 months or so. Each application is reviewed on its own merit and will depend on how your school breaks down your hours on the transcript as well.

They will also look at what your previous training was in before you changed to nursing and evaluate based on that as well.

Not all four year programs from your country are even accepted in the US.

That is also my problem because I want to make sure that my credentials will be approved because the assessment fee is expensive. Nursing is not my first course. I shifted to nursing after 4 years of college in dental medicine. Took my nursing course for 2 yrs.and a half because some of my subjects were credited.

Right now, I am preparing for IELTS.

Is there someone out there who took up nursing as their 2nd course? Or shifted to nursing? Maybe you can share your experiences if your application was approved and were able to sit for CRNE.

Thanks

Hey...

I was assessed by the College of RN of British Columbia and my education and credentials were deemed to be equivalent to what the province requires. I too am a 2nd courser (acntng). Finished nursing in 2.5 years...Best of luck to you. You can do it

thanks a lot oobie and rafaeltoney...you gave me some hope in pursing my application for Canada.By the way ..what college of nursing are you two from?

Right now I will take ielts review first. I am planning to review at scottsenglish.com as what suzanne recommends.

Wishing the best for you, but you need to be aware that each transcript is assessed for what is in it. Not all second courser programs are created equal, even there are some 4 year programs from the Philippines that are not even accepted by CA.

Please keep up posted on how things work out for you.

Hi Rafaeltoney:

Congratulations that your evaluation went through. I am currently in the same process only that youre one step ahead. Im just wondering if you had your credentials evaluated thru WES (its an evaluation accepted by CRNBC) or you just submitted your transcripts straight to CRNBC and they evaluated it for you? (coz in their website, it says "IF" the applicant is unsure if his/her credentials meet...a link will provide you to WES for your credentials to be evaluated"). I most certainly feel that my credentials will be approved since i didnt go thru those shortcut schools but at the same time, i just want to know the proper process. And since youve experienced it, care to share? Also, are you applying within BC? or are you still in another country outside BC? Just wondering actually:specs: (since ill be applying within BC as a resident)
