Hello everyone!

I was reading through some postings and was thinking, how are we as a patient and how would you rate you as a patient, "Excellent", "Good", "Fair", or "Poor".

Although I am not obnoxious and rude, but I do what to know the whens, whys, how longs, are you sure, type of information.

I have encounter rude or not so friendly staff members, which of course, includes nurses. What gets me most is when I am told by the nurse, " I will be right back!" and the patient "right back" is different form the nurses "right back", therefore, it would help ease a patient or to get them from "causing" an "up-roar", to give an estimate time or at least send someone in to tell the patient so and so has not forgotten them.

Other than this, I rate myself as a "Good/Fair" patient.

Come on now, how are you as a patient?

Mostly I behave.

However ONCE the staff really screwed up my care, and I called my hubby to come take me home. He did and I was HOME for two hours and they had NOT missed me at all. My doctor finally called me at home -(mainly to talk to my hubby but I answered the phone)- and convinced me to return.

Otherwise give me my pain med, my routine meds, leave the sheets outside the door and LEAVE ME ALONE. I'll let YOU know when I need something. :)

I was a very good patient in January when my daughter was born. The only time that I got a little angry was when they took that big 18g hep lock out of my arm and then said now we need to draw some blood! That is when I had to say hello...why did you not draw the blood from the already established line!!!!! I am an ED nurse, I don't know about you guys but if a patient has a good line that you can get blood from then you use it! Oh did I mention that I am deathly afraid of receiving needles!!!!

I have never been in the hospital, but last time I went to the ER I had been on my way to work at 0600 when I hit a deer. Brought to the hospital where I work in an ambulance. The doc wanted to give me Vicodin and send me home. My response to that was that I really would rather go on to work. You should have seen the strange look that doc gave me. LOL

Terrible. Bad. Trust me.

You see that picture of me to the left of your screen? Look long and hard at that face, my fellow nurses. And if you ever walk into a patient room and see that face, be afraid, be very afraid.

Two words: ***I suck***. I hate being a hospital patient. I am a bad control freak and both of my pregnancies were high risk and problematic, totally having things happen that were out of control........freaked me out bigtime. Also, I don't like to "bother" the nurses, so I wont' ring my call lite ......they come and find me in pain and get upset cause i did not ask for help......like i said I SUCK as a patient.

I'm with Julie--I'm not too terrible as a patient (consider the source here!) but when my son's in, look out!! (Usually not w/ the nurses--at least not hte normal ones)

The last time I was in the hospital I was a terrible patient, But I found the key to make everything right for me. I had some old mirror lensed wrap around sunglasses and I never took them off, so they couldnt tell if I was asleep or not. That way if I didnt want to respond to anyone I didnt have to. Even when my department manager came up. I didnt respond and she left thinking I was asleep. And she is the sweetest person I know.

Also it was funny to hear what nurses said when they thought I was asleep. Their tongues do wag too much and not carefull enough.

I haven't been posting for awhile because I've been a patient. I've been having a lot of nerve conduction problems and currently have several new suture lines from my palm up to my upper arm.(My right arm of course, Typing left handed is not fun when you are right handed)

:chair: Sutures and staples are supposed to come out tomorrow.

Anyway....I have a very loving and devoted husband. Sometimes a little too loving and devoted, especially since he is also 6'4" and goes about 240. Is 100% Italian with full beard and hair about mid-back lenght. Even without opening his mouth he can be a bit intimidating for those who don't know him.

Luckily, my co-workers in the ER know him well and tend to tell him to put a sock in it and chill out:smokin:

During this most recent surery however they had to put me out and the surgery took a couple hours:crying2: I woke up with the worse Pain I have even known!

The OR nurses were great and as soon as we had the pain under control I had them go ahead and let the  come in to the PACU so the people and staff in the waiting room could have some relief!!!!

I'm a great patient but I bring with me "The Family From Hell"

Hello everyone!

When I'm sick, my brain is the first thing to atrophy.

I had outpatient surgery two weeks ago to repair a small hernia. The doc said to remove the dressing after 72 hours, and it soon became evident that I can only count to 48. As I started removing the butterfly, my incision began to separate and I almost passed out! Pinching it closed, I went to my husband and said "I think we have a problem." Well, after getting a big laugh out of the whole scenario, he put a piece of bandage adhesive over it and told me to get a grip. Good patient? I don't think so.

Specializes in ED staff.

Me, myself am a very good patient, but my veins aren't good at it at all!

Terrible, because I ask two thousand questions, expect them to know the answers, and make them work, because when anyone else is at work, they have to do it.
