Ok. Please tell me someone else is screaming with me! I bought my textbooks my instructors gave us reading assigments, class starts Monday..........and I fell asleep reading the first chapter and have not quite finished te 2nd. This semester I vowed to utilize what I learned last semester about time management and stuff....but I just cant seem to get into this reading! I do want tor ead this stuff so I will be on top of my work, our first test is on the 24th......17 days away....so I need to study this stuff. Some people arent reading anything....crammers club......they are gonna wait til class officially starts on Monday, I did that last semester and was playing catchup! Not fun. I am trying to do better this time ........to make ths worse, I have put on a few pounds.ok like 10 and I cant afford a new wardrobe after spenting 400+ on books.....but I did buy some clothes that were on sale so I will look sorta cute! Not that its soooooooooo important but when i look good I feel better and more confident plus for the past two months I have really been eating crap....fast food and coffee with cream galore to stay awake and of course vending machine stuff.....so its no wonder I have put on a few pounds! I need to exercise too.....to get rid of stress and a few extra inches...not to mention stay healthy. Anyone out there relate? I'm glad I made it to this semester but I feel scared and nervous all over again.....I really want to do well but I feel so..........overwhelmed already. I really need to read this weekend.........I know that it will help me later.........I just need a little boost of motivation.:rotfl:

Whats an RN to BSN program? Here we need our BSN to get our RN so I'm just curious.

I've have my associates degree RN, and am going back to school now to finish up my bachelor's degree. It's a half-time 2-1/2 year program to finish up. There are lots and lots of these programs around and they are called RN to BSN, or ADN to BSN. I waited 15 years, wished I'd gone back earlier. But it's a good time for me. Going back to school has given me a greater appreciation for nursing and a new outlook on the profression. (Of course, I just started, now ask me in a few months how I feel. LOL).

I'm offically halfway through my reading....I feel really good....I am trying my best to read this stuff. I've read 6 chapters! Yay! 6 more to go before Monday.....my goal is to read 2 more (7and 8) today and read 9-12 tomorrow.....But I still have to write out these drugs! Yuck! :uhoh3:

I am a recent graduate of Pace University with a BS in Biology and have currently been working in NYC for 4 years at a pharmaceutical ad agency. However, I would like a change of careers. I'm looking for some assistance from you experienced and knowledgeable folks about schools in NYC that are not that expensive and where I would be able to do the accelerated BSN on a part time basis, mainly evenings and weekends.

I would also like to know, if the 3.0 GPA these programs request are ever waived. I graduated with a 2.7 and would really love to enter a BSN program. Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!! Also: would anyone happen to know how long it takes after the completion of BSN to complete a Nurse Practioner program? Thanks again. ANy information and/or advice, contacts would be greatly appreciated!

I think that after you have your BSN, you need a year or two(depending on the school) or clinical experience to be considered for admissions to an NP program.......and I think some schools dont require any clinical experience but I think that its beneficial.....it all depends on the school, s some schools you can g straight from BSN to NP with no clinical experience, others want a year or tow of cliinical experience! Hope this helped!

I remember sitting on the couch with that big old Med/Surg book and almost immediately getting sleepy. :o

I tried to do all my studying at school . .got up every 15 minutes or so and walked around outside to get some fresh air. Lots of coffee.

My DON recently asked me about going for my BSN . .. . :uhoh21:

I think admission to most nursing schools has gotten pretty competitive. If your GPA isn't up to snuff, I'd suggest retaking some science courses to try to bring it back up. From what I understand of accelerated BSN programs, they're pretty expensive. Good luck!

Here at my school, the NP programs required 1-2y work experience as an RN before applying, then the program itself lasts at minimum 12 mos. :)

I feel fortunate, so far I only have 5 chapters for the first two weeks. But it will increase to 5 a week after that. I must read the chapters prior to lecture. It really helps to reinforce the material. Also we have instructors who like to toss in pop quizzes prior to the lecture. These will count as extra credit, if of course we finish the class with 80% or better. I also utilize NCLEX review books and the sotware/web pages that come with the books. My goal this quarter is to learn as much as possible about the lecture just completed prior to the next lecture. I am studying several hours a day, every day. Let's hope I can keep it up. If I can I know that studying for the exams will be much less stressful.

This is torture! I went to bed at 10 last night.....and I got up at 6:30am this morning to do more reading. I have 4 pages left in ch.7...which seem miles long. I have to 5 more chapters to read before 8:30am tomorrow morning!AAAHHH!!!! I didnt even write out my drugs last night........well, I wrote out the name and then I fell asleep........does that count?

Just a quick suggestion... someone once suggested to me...while reading books that have soooooo much info. that you go into overload and fall asleep to try reading a section and then in the margin of the book write out what you think would be a good test question on that section. Then every 40 minutes or so, go back and review the questions you have written. I have tried this with a few of my pre-req's and it seemed to work pretty well. Another trick I have tried is that I jump on my stationary bike and ride very slowly while reading.

Hope this helps.

A habit I will be getting back into this semester is to make notecards from my reading, then take a walk with my notecards. Think mall walking this time of year! This works especially well when you can line up a partner to walk with so you have a motivator and can quiz each other. Heck..round up your study group and call it a field trip! I don't think there was a single one of us that didn't put some weight on last semester.
