hey guys!
took my NCLEX on monday (28 january), test stopped at 75 questions, and there was NO DOUBT in my mind that i failed miserably. i found out today that i PASSED!!! :w00t:.
what does that mean? it means it doesn't matter what you are thinking about the NCLEX -- it is the hardest test you will ever take, so far, in nursing. but you learned what you need to know while you've been in nursing school. it really is designed that way. that's what most nurses have told me, and they were totally correct! most of the test was over things i don't remember seeing covered in nursing school -- but somehow, thanks to school, i was able to reason out the correct answers.
how to prepare? i had a meds pub review course provided by my school. none of those questions were on the test. i worked saunders and lippencot(?) NCLEX review books. none of those questions were on the test. we were told to work at least 3000 questions before the test, and examine all the rationales for the correct and incorrect answers. i was sick, so i covered maybe (best guess) 2000. i have friends who did the 3000, and maybe a few more, who also passed at 75 questions.
other people i know have done the kaplan course, which they say really helped. there is also a course through drexel. i don't know their success rate up front and personal, as i don't know anyone who took it.
you know what you need to know. so go out there, and PASS THE TEST!!! because you can. you've spent the past 2-4 years preparing for it!!! fine-tune it with a couple of weeks of answering questions and reading the rationales to make your brain click into NCLEX mode.
it's your time to shine.
caosper- thanks for the advice and congratulations!!!!

Best of luck---taking the test on Friday?? Your going to have a long weekend. Turn off your computer and rent some good movies..like 10 of them to take your mind off of it. I was lucky, I walked away from the test site knowing I passed. Pay attention to number 75. I dont know if it is a myth or not--probaly is but it made me feel better so I will pass it on. If you get to number 75 and you know the answere, then the screen turns blue and the computer shuts off, you had to pass. I mean what are the odds of you missing all the questions before question 75? Slim. 85% of new grads pass the Nclex on the 1st try. So the odds are in your favor. Nclex test for minimum competency. as long as you get more right than wrong your good. You have done the work, you made it out of school and know basic body systems. Just dont kill anyone---lol that is what my favorite teacher always told us, just show Nclex your not going to kill someone.
My test had a lot of teaching, "your patient needs more teaching if they say XYZ" You will be amazed how much common sence stuff is on there example: Dont advise a patient with Dumping syndrom to take a brisk walk after lunch! I mean Ok who are you going to advice to take a "brisk" walk? WHat pateint needs a "brisk" walk?
And dont panic if you dont know the answere, narrow it down to two and use your gut instinct. It is all there. Remember you only hve to get more than half right, have you ever got 50% or lower on an exam? Nclex is very very similiar to Davis/Saunders/ATI etc etc, if you can do those and score above 70-75% you will do fine on boards.
I am excited for you. I am a brand new RN and just figured out what my pay check is going to look like next week....NICE.
Best of luck.
Eat a good supper and go to bed early!!!! I am mom of 4 what else would I say!

I am taking mine Feb. 7th, I have to take it in Nebraska because there were no test dates until the end of feb. in colorado. My friend is driving out there with me. I feel pretty good about it. I used suzannes plan and i feel pretty good about it. good luck everyone
i know how you feel -- i felt the same, which is why i'm responding. NONE of us, in my group of quite-a-few, thought we passed. we all stopped at 75, we have all been in the top of our class and worked very hard at it. we all walked out with our "alternate plans" of what we were going to do better next time. you are not alone. if you didn't read my earlier post -- we all PASSED. and if you didn't pass, then you can take it as many times as you want until you do. here's hoping first time's a charm -- but i greatly respect people who have to subject themselves to it more than once!
post here and let us know -- i'll be checking on it!:flwrhrts:
