hi anyone here planning to take nclex rn? lets share tips in studying, fact throwing..
hope this helps...:loveya:
your best bet for accurate infection control information is always going to be the cdc.someone also suggested remembering mtv for common airborne diseases, which helped me.
measles
tb
varicella zoster
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dhqp/pdf/guidelines/isolation2007_appendixa.pdf
hmmm... varicella zoster requires contact precautions - it's stated on saunders and even in kaplan's qbank. disseminated herpes zoster is the one that necessitates airborne precautions.

varicella-zoster is the virus responsible for chickenpox and for shingles (herpes-zoster) in adults. dessiminated herpes-zoster (shingles) means that the virus is widespread which can happen in an immunocompromised patient.
i don't know what source the nclex review books are citing, but this information is directly from the centers for disease control and prevention website. www.cdc.gov
""airborne precautions prevent transmission of infectious agents that remain infectious over long distances when suspended in the air (e.g., rubeola virus [measles], varicella virus [chickenpox], mycobacterium. tuberculosis, and possibly sars-cov) as described in i.b.3.c and appendix a of the hicpac/cdc isolation guideline.""
""use airborne precautions as recommended in appendix a of the hicpac/cdc isolation guideline for patients known or suspected to be infected with infectious agents transmitted person-to-person by the airborne route (e.g., m tuberculosis, measles, chickenpox, disseminated herpes zoster.""
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US THAT ARE YET TO TAKE THE EXAM. I FEEL FRUSTRATED MYSELF BECAUSE IM DONE WITH MY REVIEW BUT I STILL HAVE 7 DAYS LEFT BEFORE THE EXAM AND I DONT KNOW HOW TO SPEND MY TIME WISELY. WELL, WE JUST HAVE TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS FOR OURSELVES I GUESS. REMEMBER GUYS, WE ARE WHO WE CHOOSE TO BE. HEHE. I'LL PRAY FOR YOU. WE CAN MAKE THIS. I KNOW WE CAN. WE'RE ALMOST THERE JUST ONE STEP BEHIND OUR DREAMS.:nmbrn:
wow ur done good for you u.....please PM me on how you prepared I would love to know

i do see your point. well, i'm using kaplan and saunders so i would stick on the review materials that i'm using. i know that varicella virus (chicken pox), tb, rubeola virus (measles), disseminated herpes zoster requires airborne precautions. however, if your going to scrutinize how the cdc stated the list of infectious diseases, it has been said the "varicella virus (chicken pox)", not varicella zoster" which in my opinion is another type of disease - well, that's my assumption because on saunders comprehensive review for the nclex rn, 4th edition, page, 192, "skin infections such as cutaneous diptheria, herpes simplex, impetigo, pediculosis, scabies, staph, and varicella zoster - are listed on contact precautions." in connection, on kaplan's practice test and even saunders, including exam cram - it is categorized to contact prec.
however, it is a fact that the agent of chicken pox is - varicella-zoster virus. so i dont know how to sum it up.
hello everyone,
just wanted to pass along somethings i found helpful.
here is a mnemonic device to memorize teh erikson stages of development. sounds silly, but it really worked for me.
i passed with 75 questions.
i used suzannes plan(you rock!) and did kaplan, downloaded kaplan lectures and converted them to .mp4 to watch on my ipod at work. PM me for details on how to do this if you're interested.
my kaplan scores were 50's and 60's. exit exam 68%. i really read the rational.
also one thing that was suggested to me that i really found helpful. i'm a visual learner.
if something like kyphosis is a term you can not remember, google image search this word.
the image you will associate with this is word is a better mental trigger.
good luck out there
