hi anyone here planning to take nclex rn? lets share tips in studying, fact throwing..
hope this helps...:loveya:
Hello Everyone. I am planning to take my exam at the begining of April. I have taken it before and failed. As I am studying, I keep getting precaution Q's wrong. Can someone help me with this?? Is this correct?
Standard -gloves when in contact with blood/bodily fluids
contact- gloves/gown (at all times, or just with bl/body fluids???)
droplet-gloves,gown,shield
airborne-gloves, gown, mask
Also, does anyone have a list of common diseases and their precautions?
Some that I have are:
MRSA: contact
Croup: contact
Influenza: droplet
TB: airborne
AIDS:contact
Thanks!!
i just took my NCLEX-RN Exam today. and i don't know what to expect... really its 50-50 chance. im just happy that i finally finished taking the exam... but ofcourse nervous about the outcome.
I got100 questions and took about 2:45 hrs. i have no calculations, 2 SATA, 3-5 pharma, and others are on safety, infection control, priority.
I know that the time we spent taking test and the number of question doesn't have any bearing on the result.
How about the level of difficulty? Does it mean that longer question means difficult and shorter question mean easier one?? cos, i feel that everytime i got a short question, i feel that i got wrong on the previous question, and everytime i got the correct one, the next question would get longer... and now im really anxious over my exam... because i got like some short questions before my exam finally ended.

Well, hmmm... with the precaution what I do is attributing unique characteristics to each of these mentioned precautions. Below are the elaborations.
standard prec - you have to use gloves or the needed PPE when in contact with the client including the articles.
Airborne prec - Always wear mask; room should be closed at all times.
Droplet prec - what I remember with this one is kinda similar with airborne which is wear mask at all times, however, room doesnt need to be closed as long as 3 feet (im not sure if its 3 or 6 feet) is observed then transmission is at lowest risk.
contact prec - of course wear your gown, gloves etc. (I guess, mask is not really that needed.)
MRSA: contact
Croup: contact
Influenza: droplet
TB: airborne
AIDS:Standard or Universal precaution similar with HIV and Hep B (This means, that these diseases are not transferred by casual contact.)
I HOPE I HAVE HELPED YOU OUT. BUT TRY TO DO YOUR RESEARCH ALSO TO VERIFY MY INFOS.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US THAT ARE YET TO TAKE THE EXAM. I FEEL FRUSTRATED MYSELF BECAUSE IM DONE WITH MY REVIEW BUT I STILL HAVE 7 DAYS LEFT BEFORE THE EXAM AND I DONT KNOW HOW TO SPEND MY TIME WISELY. WELL, WE JUST HAVE TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS FOR OURSELVES I GUESS. REMEMBER GUYS, WE ARE WHO WE CHOOSE TO BE. HEHE. I'LL PRAY FOR YOU. WE CAN MAKE THIS. I KNOW WE CAN. WE'RE ALMOST THERE JUST ONE STEP BEHIND OUR DREAMS.:nmbrn:
Thanks so much for your help! I have been trying to find out the exact answer for the precautions for a while. Couldn't find it in Kaplan or online, even went to the CDC website, but still was not exactly clear on everything. I kept missing precautions questions, so I just wanted to make sure I have the precaution info correct according to NCLEX so I can answer correctly!
Thanks again!

Your welcome. Hmmm... If you have saunders compre review 4th ed - you can browse about the precautions, page 191-192. Some of the common diseases are also exemplified but not as sufficient though. I learned most of the diseases and its precautions on Kaplan's Qbank - rationale.
Goodluck dude!
your best bet for accurate infection control information is always going to be the cdc.
someone also suggested remembering mtv for common airborne diseases, which helped me.
measles
tb
varicella zoster

Thanks so much for the info! I will check out saunders. In the past I went crazy buying every book to study from, and I just ended up overwhelming myself and not really learning anything. This time I told myself I would try to stick to just one review book! But I think I have that book, I will go and check it out. Thanks so much!
