FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

U.S.A. Florida

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

Congratulations!!!!! I'm happy that you made it this term! Best of Luck to you.. I'm # 124 so I'll retry again next year!! Keep us posted!

I am 123, looks like the .04 wasn't that big of a difference after all. Are you in any prereqs now to help out with points, or retaking the NAT? I am finishing up my micro class hoping to get enough extra points. If a pull out an A, I will have a 207.64, and I hope that will be enough. I tried to look up last years thread but it looks like it has already been removed so I don't know what the cut-off for last fall was.:monkeydance:

207 should be more than enough... Remember there are more seats for fall than any other time.

Wilbur,

I'm taking another version of Humanites because the one I took years ago I made a "C" on. I'm tracking an A in this class of course and this should give me 6 extra points + I'm retaking the NAT in May. this Humanities class is my only "C" so I thought let me just improve my points by taking another humanities.

It seems you did real well on the Test. On the last one I freaked out and i couldnt remember how to add a simple math equation, it was really bad test anxiety. Taking this Humanities class will bring me up to a 197.60 + Hopefully I do better this time on the NAT. I think we stand a pretty good chance next semester so we have time to prepare for alot of things. I'm thinking about possibly looking into buying things like the uniforms, equipment etc.... I already have a previous degree so I dont get financial Aid until I'm actually accepted into the program although I'm not sure that this is even 100% true. If they dont give me my financial Aid, I honestly dont know what I'm going to do but I'm thinking about a private loan maybe. Anyone with previous degree please give me suggestions......

FYI....I got a call today that "another seat came open" and I was next on the list. I was number 110 or 111 I think. I declined the seat because I already started the program somewhere else..... Good luck to number 112 :p

Hey jkvanso, just wondering where you are attending school at?

FSCJ 1st week was overwhelming

That's crazy. I think most of us already feel behind. Can you imagine really starting off behind? I'd probably have declined if they hadn't called me until after classes started. Though I may have been so excited that I wouldn't have cared.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted.

I was just wondering how you know what number you are?

those that do not get accepted in the initial cut, are given their ranking... ie, 110 out of 436 (or whatever...) and for example summer term accepts 96 sooooo you would then know you missed it by 14)... but in reality that is not entirely accurate either since I was sent a decline letter and then received an acceptance call after all those how were accepted and decided not to attend have responded back... HOWEVER, IF you get accepted in the first batch you do not learn what your ranking is. Does that help?

Yes thank you....I live in duval with over 200 . Maybe just not meant this time. Thanks for your help

I got my package last week. My mom called me while I was at work and I just started crying! Haha. Everyone at work was rushing up to me but I was still smiling so I confused the heck out of them. They were all VERY supportive, though. I was accepted into the Night/weekend program, which made my whole week. :) I've been running around like a mad woman trying to get all my ducks in a row. It's just the forms that are due for the 10th, correct? Not the uniforms or skills package? Also, does anyone know what the schedule looks like (a rough idea) for nights/weekends? When do classes start? I'm too impatient to wait until orietation to find this out. Hah! What is registration lottery? Thanks!!

Also, I just got my Basic Life Support CPR certification thing today. Only took like 2-3 hours for the class and 25 dollars.

All they gave me after was a paper card thing from the American Heart Association that says Healthcare Provider in the front and says the card certifies me for BLS.

Is that all we get/need to be certified? I expected more than a flimsy paper card, lol

Hello, I am in 4th term right now and need to renew my CPR card. Where did you go for $25 and how do I get in touch with them so that I can re-certify?

Well, it has taken me a while to calm down from today. First of all, the NAT is not as difficult as I was trying to make it. I got 98.56 points on my first try. I went through and answered the ones I knew and went back to answer the others. I left several of the math questions blank at first and went back to do them with what time I had left.

Now, on to the frustrating part, which is partly my fault. I unknowling counted Chem in my points (which I got an A in). After taking Chem out my points dropped from 112 to 100. Then, as I was turning in my app the lady taking it told me my SYG would not count because it was SYG 2010 not SYG 2000. I went by the degree planner (audit) in Artemis and it specifically lists SYG 2010 as an option. I got a B in the class and this takes my points from 100 to 91. After adding my points from pre-reqs and points from the NAT I get 189.56. I do have 5 additional points from work experience so I end up with a grand total of 194.56 without the SYG class. After the person in the nursing office discovered this she conferred with someone else in the office and sent me downstairs to talk with the Dean. Well, I went down and TRIED to meet with the Dean. I sat there for almost an hour trying to talk with him and finally got frustrated and left. I will be trying to get an appointment with him or speak with him on the phone regarding this matter. I was following the degree planner in Artemis. So needless to say, I am not a happy camper! Sorry to rant!

Oh boy same thing for me! Do they really ONLY require SYG2000? Which I got a D in in HS while taking it at the local college :( long time ago. But I do have SYG2010, well a B and that too was a long time ago. If that is the case ?!? As for a back-up I just got in an SYG2000 online class starting on Feb. 7.

HELP!!! Do I need to go to the North Campus on Monday? Or suck it up and wait until Summer to apply? Geez, they make it so complicated and I already have a BA. with a minor in Sociology and now have to go back to an intro class... go figure...
