FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

Published

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

:nurse:

So, I just chalked it up and retook the NAT! Which, by the way, I did much better and increased my points by 10 and I'm still able to retake once more before the fall deadline. (If I'm a no go this semester!)

I got a 112.64 on the NAT, so I think I will just leave that alone. Or, do they take the higher of two or the last one? If it's the higher of the two, I might as well take it again just on the chance I can up my points.

Yeah, I took the APT CPR class at St. Lukes a while back.

It was less than 2 hours for me and easy. It was taught by some EMT dude. He just showed us a movie and we worked on some dummies for like 10 minutes. After that, took an easy test and got our cards.

The number is in the page where it shows you places to take CPR classes.

Jen, are you going to the one Tues 9am? I'm going to that one.

I went down to Gainsville last fall to get my HCP CPR cert. I made a day out of it, went down in the A.M. with a buddy and hung out, checked out the campus, then went to a class at the UF College of Medicine. Then had lunch downtown and came back home. You guys probably don't have the time to be as leisurely as I was, but at that time I was in no hurry and just felt like enjoying the day. And I did! :D

By the way, it was extremely easy. There was only 3 other people in the class with me and when we took the test at the end, I did better than the current nurse who was just getting recertified for a new job...

Im planning to knock out a bunch of stuff tomorrow.

I have an appointment for the UPS store for the finger printing at 1:10PM

Before that in the morning, I plan on going to north campus to pick up the stuff for the drug screening.

After that, I hope to go to the Northside Medical Clinic to complete the drug screening along with the other stuff.

So Northside Medical does all the titers, physical, TDAP, and what else?

Does it also to the Tuberculosis screening?

I had trouble with the website for the fingerprinting. The one listed on the paperwork didn't work for me so I clicked the link suggested (was fccj as opposed to fscj) and got as far as checking yes or no to the child abuse criminal history thing and there was no boxes to check. I don't know why. Has anyone else had trouble?

They teach a Healthcare Provider CPR course. I was thinking of going the online route but ended up going with APT instead since they were less expensive and near my home.

Oh ok I thought it was an additional certification that could help when employed as an RN. I heard that all the acceptance letters are not out yet. I remember the question on the application asking how I wanted to be notified and I dont remember if I put an email or not.

I would stick with that score - 120 is the max you can get on the NAT

That's when I'm going too. Maybe I'll be accepted by then :lol2:

I managed to get through it all , but you're right about the site not working. It just showed the link to the site for fccj liked you said and I got through that site. I decided to pay by check in the mail and I have to go there at 1PM.

I dont know if that will be a problem. I'll call them tomorrow to verify.

Jen,

For some reason I thought you had been accepted already, well so far no one but AMD88 has posted points in the 190's, everyone else is in the 200's. My points are 191.60 and I did not get an email NOR a Letter in the mail so I'm guessing I didnt make the cut.. How many points did you apply with again?

MODgirlk, You havent rec'd anything either? Were you in the 200's or in the 190's... Are you Ladies signing up for CPR class just in case you do get accepted at the last minute? I'm afraid to go through all the hassle for nothing. I wished someone knew the cutoff points and posted it here so that we can move on.

No matter when/where I get accepted I will need it, so I am getting the CPR out of the way. If I get accepted to the Fall term, I'll already have it done. Plus, not all the letters have gone out yet since people can (and actually do) decline their seats  SO there may still be hope for us. :D Depending on how they calculate my points I either have 194.68 or 195.96 (I improved on some areas of the NAT and did worse on others the 2nd time). Either way my score is higher then 193.84

Jen

Yes, That's true about the CPR class. I hope that if by some miracle I do get accepted that I don't find myself scrambling trying to find a CPR class at the last minute and possibly not find one. You have a good reason to believe you will get in because your scores are higher than someone else's who was accepted.. so far I have not read about anyone getting in Lower then AMD's scores so I'm Guess the cutoff will higher than 191.60 for sure. There is still hope for you!
