FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

Published

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

I got in Days (which was my first choice) with 226.2? points. Apparently I got the email yesterday at 2:44 pm but I didn't see it until I checked my email again today. I called about the deadlines and left the lady a message. I don't know how I am supposed to have my flu shot "on or before March 10th" when I didn't even get the email until March 10th. There are some other deadlines I'm concerned about as well. I have my MD appt set for tomorrow and they have me coming back for a recheck on Monday. Now I have to do the criminal check and drug screening and my CPR.

I am so excited and so stressed as well. I have 5 classes I'm taking this term and 2 papers and an exam due next week. I'm stressed!

If anyone is going to be meeting up over the weekend, let me know. I'd love to pre-meet some of you and hopefully we can convince someone that is already in the program to meet us and give us a "heads-up" about what to expect.

Just spoke with the lady (I don't think I can use her name on here)

She said that if you did have a flu vaccine this year, submit proof of it but being that it is the end of the flu season, it is unlikely that we will be able to get a flu vaccine. She isn't too worried about that BUT we may be required to get one in the fall so be prepared for that.

With all the other things, we need to have it done by the 19th (which she confirmed is next Friday, not Monday). Also our cpr must be done.

The "jist" of my conversation with her was: she realizes that lab work can take up to a week to come back BUT we must provide proof that we have had our blood work drawn by a lab (even if we don't have the results yet) and we must have proof of our physical with neccessary immunizations. It was clear to me that she realized we were on a time constraint but regardless, we must get on the ball.

Hope this helps...

Hi,

Does anyone know how the private msg is done? I thought maybe by friending someone a link would be provided.

I figured it out! Once you post 15 times and friend someone- you can go to their page and there is a yellow line with a link. You can send them an email and it will provide them w/ yours!

Under the user's name, next to where it says "Registered User" there is a series of icons. You should see one that looks like a pencil writing on a paper.

That has only appeared since my last post.:)

I called the school and spoke to the same person and got the same answer today. So, if you haven't had a flu shot this year you probably would not be able to get it now, but you will probably have to for clinicals in the fall.

Just an FYI, I called the American Heart Association Herman Meeks number and have my CPR class set up for this Saturday at 9am. They were the first people to call me back. It sounds like they still have space in that class if anyone needs their CPR and can't do it during the week. It is $50 and includes everything you need (no extra books to purchase, etc...).

Is anyone going to the Northside Medical Clinic tomorrow? I'm planning to go.

Im planning to knock out a bunch of stuff tomorrow.

I have an appointment for the UPS store for the finger printing at 1:10PM

Before that in the morning, I plan on going to north campus to pick up the stuff for the drug screening.

After that, I hope to go to the Northside Medical Clinic to complete the drug screening along with the other stuff.

So Northside Medical does all the titers, physical, TDAP, and what else?

Does it also to the Tuberculosis screening?

I haven't been accepted yet but I just signed up for Advanced Patient Transportation the course is $30 at St. Vincent's and is offered both Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

I also called the number of the gal listed in a previous posting yesterday (half online course, half she comes to you). She charges $40 for the in person portion and http://www.onlineaha.org charges $17.50 for the online portion.

On another note, has anyone else been accepted below 200 points? SO far only AMD88 has posted with an acceptance below 200 points... I'm getting nervous!

-EDITED: Advanced Patient Transport teaches a Heathcare Provider CPR course. I should have been less vague.-

Whats the Advanced Patient Transportation for Jen and how do you sign up? Sounds interesting.

Whats the Patient Transportation for Jen?

They teach a Healthcare Provider CPR course. I was thinking of going the online route but ended up going with APT instead since they were less expensive and near my home.
