FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

Published

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

Future thanks so much! Did you volunteer for orientation?

Justn I applied for days with 204.56

I applied with 194 for days. I retook the NAT and if I don't get into the summer, I will apply to the fall with over 200 points. Sure wish I could've taken the NAT before Feb 1!!! LOL

Who all applied for wkdays and what was your score? Also, ppl that applied for NW did you also apply for days? I applied for wkdys and I had a 197.87 until I saw on here that they don't take ENC1102 so I should have a 194.87.....

I applied for days as well with 201.

FutureRNmom can you elaborate on what's needed? I deal with the military and getting in for appts is insane sometimes. Maybe if I know what's needed I can get my stuff set up. It can't hurt me to get the stuff done even if I don't get in.

Why would it be insane? I didn't have any trouble. I got my physical and my titers (and HepB start) done on base. The only thing that I didn't get done on base is the Flu shot because the school wanted it by XYZ date and the base wasn't going to start giving shots until the following week. Kinda dumb on the school's part because we didn't have clinicals right away and we had plenty of time to get the shot. :uhoh3:

I called for an apt this morning (for my own reasons). The first appt avail was 3 pm today. I passed on that because I have my OB final tonight. I got one for 1100 tomorrow.

hmmmm, anyone have news yet??? :banghead: Guess not or you would have posted it right? :p

Be patient..... since my entrance group (Summer 09) they have taken 6 - 8 weeks before you find out....anyway, we began receiving letters on Mar 24. SOOOOO you have a couple of more weeks to wait.

Hope it's not the 24th if orientation is the 31st!

Last term we were notified on the 10-11 of November. I expect we will hear something Tuesday or Wednesday. Keep an eye on your FSCJ email and your mailbox. You will get the package via email and snail mail on the same day. I was accepted last term but had a family emergency the first week and had to drop.

Get ready to spend some money - background checks, uniforms, labs and shots.... Books are available for purchase at orientation. We bought them while we waited to pick classes.

Hope to see you on the 31st!:yeah:

Fingers are crossed that we hear next week....EARLY =)

what is this 31st date and where is it coming from?

Summer semester starts on May 10 so the Orientation should be sometime in April right?

A current student is volunteering to work orientation for ADN students on the 31st. They have orientation early so we can prepare for the first day. We had 2 exams on the first day of class in January. Orientation gives the assignment and lecture. It's basic math addition, subtraction multplication and division of fractions and decimals plus a test on medical terminology. Med term is easy to study for, just do the work in the book and study the cards that are provided with the book. Math stuff has lots of practice in a Dosage Calculations book. Plan to do a LOT of reading the week before classes start. And prepare to kill a few trees with all of the ppts and syllibi.

Just don't get stressed out and keep your eye on :nurse:!

Boy many students would call that a major underestimation of the math test! It is actually a dosage calc test. You will need to do conversions of units as part of determining the answer. You have to know proper rounding and also proper notation.... like 0.53 is correct.... .53 is a wrong answer. If the units are over one.... like 1.53, you round the 3 down and the answer is 1.5. If you put 1.53, you will get marked wrong. One regular conversion is.... your patient is a child that weighs 53lbs. The medication is 0.5 mg/kg. Calculate the proper dose. (1lb is 2.2 kg) They will teach the the ratio/proportion method of calculation.

For math whizzes, the tests are easy. (I always score 100%) but some folks fail. If you are not a math whiz, do not underestimate the difficulty of the test.
