FCCJ Summer 2010 hopefuls...

Published

Is it too early to start a thread like this? LOL

I'll be finishing up my pre-requisites this fall, and then applying in the spring for the Summer 2010 session. I still need to study for the NAT and actually take the exam and take a CPR course. I'm considering getting my CNA and trying to find work in healthcare to get my foot in the door.

I am so nervous about the whole process, nervous about whether I should try to work and go to school, and especially nervous if this is something I can handle. I am afraid of all the responsibility.

Anyone else planning for next Summer? What is your process looking like, what are your thoughts/feelings?

I'm in N/W. They don't tell you what that cutoff is. I had 217 pts so I have no idea what the lowest score in our class was (and we have too much respect to ask!) :D

Oh! Forgot to add..... Yes, they tell you in the acceptance letter whether or not you got N/W.

Thanks to everyone for the positive words. I just want to prepare myself because I know I have high points but if I don't get in for some reason I don't want to be too disappointed but if I do... I want to be really excited! I will definitely be planning on a celebration if I do...

Phread01,

I don't know if anyone would be able to answer that question for you. The "sorry you didn't make it" letters (at least, from what I've read on here and when speaking to people) do not give the cutoff for N/W. Just the cutoff for the program itself... I think. I heard that in the Spring term there were people who made it but weren't able to get N/W so they had to drop out.

Has anyone had any experience like this? Do they tell you if you get N/W on the acceptance letter? How does this work?

It's my understanding that they don't offer N/W during the Spring semester, which is another reason the Summer term is more competitive. Which is why I'm stressing more than I should.

Your post was a huge help, thanks. Knowing 217 is in the right ballpark is an enormous relief. :)

Thanks for the FutureRNMom

I live in Duval so If nothing is wrong with my calculations I should be good.

Im so surprised how many points I ended up with. Before I took the NAT when I had my classes all done, I was worried the classes I didnt Ace would come back to haunt me in points. I had 4 A's, 4 B's, and 1 C for all the prereqs they accept. Thought I had 5 A's, but I figured out here that they dont count chem.

Didnt know if the 103pts from just the grades was good enough since I've heard how competitive the program.

The NAT is really the make it or break it for getting into the program.

With a really great NAT score, somebody could likely get over 200pts with straight B's for their prereqs.

So glad I got that over with :)

good luck to everybody applying.

If anybody has any questions on the NAT, I can probably help since it's still fresh on my mind.

Still cant get over at how hard the spelling section was, lol.

I used the spelling section to relax my brain since those points don't count toward your admissions score. But yeah, the spelling wasn't easy.

Hello all! I have been reading your posts and they are filled with great information. I have just finished my prereqs and will be turning in my application for summer 2010. I have not taken the NAT test d/t dragging my feet for a while on it. I'm taking it on the 27th. I hope I do well. I'm just brushing up on my math a little since it's been a while. I have 112 points for grades and am hoping for a good NAT grade. I will be turning in my app right after I finish the NAT. Any words of wisdom for the NAT? Anything would be helpful.

The first part of the NAT I thought was the hardest, simply because of the sheer number of questions versus the allotted time. It may help to scan the questions first, answer the ones you know right away, then go back and work on the rest. Just remember to answer ALL the questions. Good luck on the test!

good luck on the NAT.

The material on the test itself is not that difficult, its just the time.

The first part which is the academic aptitude is where time is a big factor. 90 questions and only 30 minutes.

It'll have those shape questions, the math questions, and the "which word doesnt belong" questions. Not much time to really go in depth with the questions.

I managed to do all but 2 problems one by one in order and had time to go finish the 2 questions I missed with like 2 minutes left. Didnt have time to actually calculate them so I just guessed on the two.

The reading section is like the academic aptitude where you might struggle with time. 40 questions in 20 minutes. There's like 3 medium sized articles you have to read. I just skimmed the articles then did the questions. Most of the questions were pretty specific and the answers were in the articles.

The science is pretty easy. Its stuff you should've learned from your classes.

So I have my transcripts and NAT test scores highlighted.

I filled the application from the RN packet. Not really a lot of stuff to fill out on the application.

If I've only went to FSCJ to get my prereqs, do I have to write it down in the university attended portion?

Also, Do I just staple all the papers together?

I have my big envelope with the address from the packet written on it ready to be mailed.

Hi everyone,

I've looked around a bunch, but I can't seem to find any information on what the point cut off was for Summer 2009. Does anyone know? I'm trying to use that as a general idea of what Summer 2010 cut off will be.

I'm applying with a 203.36 and I'm real worried that I won't make it.

Not sure, but I know for last semester it was at around 193pts.

200+ pts is good.

I hear the point cutoff has never gone over 200 before for any semester.

What I wonder about is since the Summer term only accepts 93 students, so it seems like the point cut off would be much higher since they are taking less people this term. Right?

Yeah, I know what you mean.

With over 40 less spots taken than any other semester, common sense would say the cutoff would be higher, but by how much?

Im not sure if that's always been the situation. I wish they'd post the cutoff by semester somewhere.

I was thinking about it just now and for spring semester, the cutoff was at like 193pts with 144 students accepted.

That means all those students who were accepted are over 193 and the people who didnt get in and try to apply again for summer will still be below 193.

So when you apply, you wont be competing with the 144 students with over 193pts but people who are new who just finished their prereqs and the people who already applied with under 193 points.

Thats means the cutoff shouldnt increase that much to be over 200.

I think 200pts+ is a safe bet. A lot of people around here say to aim for over 200 for a guaranteed spot.

good luck
