FCCJ Spring 2009

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey all!

I was just trying to get in touch with anyone hoping to start the RN program at FCCJ in the Spring 2009 semester. Hopefully we can see what the points seem to be at or where they were for the Fall 2008 semester.

Look forward to talking!:nuke:

i have begun to read the emails sent to me from the nursing program.

did anyone else see the irony in the email sent on 10 dec ?

mrs. barrett wanted you all to know that the following materials to be forwarded to you will be delayed:

the student handbook

the time management schedule

the slides that she spoke about during orientation

emily

can anyone explain what the attachment in the email on 15 dec is all about? this is the first time i am hearing or reading anything regarding hesi, and what have we done so far that we can test on?

this is the excerpt from the attachment in the email dated 15 dec

just a reminder: over the holidays you may have time to do your personalized remediation for each hesi that you have taken in the program so far. here's how you do this:

hi don... the dec 15 email with the attachment that you are speaking of is an email for term 2, 3, and 4 students for spring term. i'm not sure why they sent it to term 1 students -- it is fccj and at times their organizational skills are lacking.

as for students in section 10... i bought id cases and clips -- they only came in a pack of 12, no singles... so if you guys need one i have 11 to spare. just let me know and i'll give it to you when classes start.

mestiza81 i'll take one of the id slips, and i'll gladly contribute money to your cost.

also thanks for explaining that email. i have read on these forums that some nursing students did not know about the hesi ahead of time. these students passed all of their classes, but were not prepared for the hesi exam, failed, and then were denied their degree and not allowed to take the nclex. i would rather be as prepared as possible.

We get plenty of warning for when the Hesi is going to be, and depending on what class you take first every term after first, you usually take it towards the end of the term. You should be prepared for it now especially since it is going to start counting as an actual test grade. The HESI has NCLEX style questions, so if you fail it, then you are not prepared for the NCLEX. I do not know about 4th term (because they keep referring to it as an exit exam) but most of the students I know have not passed the HESI ever so far. Do not get discouraged though. All of these people still pass.

The book store has single ID card holders for those who do not get one from mestiza.

don, there's is no need to pay... they were super cheap... let's just call it my "here's-to-the-next-16-months" gift! :D i have no use for so many... so, get them while they're hot!!

its really hard to be prepare for the hesi test first term......its really hard to study for because they dont teach half the stuff you are tested on, no one passed in my class, but it didnt matter, personally i think the hesi is a joke, its just luck of the draw, or if your a good at guesser you'll be okay!!!

pharm and concepts are self taught, all our teachers did was read the powerpoints for us and most of the days we met face to face all we did was presentations assignments, so dont expect your teachers to hold your hand, or piggy back you throught the program, you have to study on the days you dont meet face to face, and it will all seem overwhelming!!!!!! but take it one test at a time.....

some good advice:

develop a study group, you cant do it all on your own, trust me!

take it a test at a time, study for the upcoming test as soon as thats over study for the next starting right after that test.

READ THE BOOK IN CONCEPTS!!!!!! powerpoints were not helpful in that class

ALL OTHER CLASSES KNOW YOUR POWERPOINTS FRONT AND BACK!! they will be strictly testing off of those, and thats a promise!

for pharm, concentrate on your lecture notes, know them more so than your powerpoints, they are both helpful, but the lecture notes are more helpful!!

know that it is impossible to read everything!!! if you dont believe me than try it for a week, and then you will understand what i mean, you just have to know what exactly to concentrate onbecause its waytoo much information for one little brain!!!

WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT SOLEY STUDY STUDY GUIDES FOR TESTS, MOST OF THE TIME THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL!! TRUST ME, IF YOU STUDY ALL OF THE STUFF I TELL YOU YOU WILL PASS, AS LONG AS YOU DO THE WORK!!! GOOD LUCK, NEW ONES, IM ROUTING FOR YOU!!!!

Specializes in none.

I second all of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are both in the same section and you CANNOT do everything. Take it a test at a time and breathe. The first semester is overwhelming and it is for a reason. So good luck you guys!!!!

:offtopic:

Are there any first term students in sections 9 & 10 that have tried accessing the lecture schedule for Health Assessment on BlackBoard?? I have and it won't pull up -- I just want to make sure it isn't operator error... Thanks! :thankya:

mestiza81 i just checked after reading your post, and i have no problem saving and opening the 4 files in the course information section of our assessment class. those being syllabus, schedule, power pts 4, power pts 5.

hope this info helps, if not ask more questions!

a word on downloading the powerpoints and study guides from blackboard........ all the material is developed in fccj's computers which all have the most updated version of microsoft office, i believe it's office '07. if you have an earlier version of office on your computer ( such as 2000 or '03) you may have problems being able to download the documents.

office '07 gives users the option to maintain complatability with earlier versions when you save a document but sometimes the professors forget and sometimes it just doesn't work.

we had to ask some of our professors to post a separate version of documents some times. you can tell the difference because old documents end in .doc or .ppt and new ones will end in .docx or .pptx

if you find this is not your problem then it may just be that blackboard is having a bad day or you may have do to what some people in my class do which is print everything in a computer lab.

has anyone gotten their uniforms in the mail yet? I thought they were suppose to be mailed out already... my apartment complex just changed the way they accept packages so I'm hoping that my things haven't been lost in the shuffle
