FCCJ Spring 2009

Published

Hey all!

I was just trying to get in touch with anyone hoping to start the RN program at FCCJ in the Spring 2009 semester. Hopefully we can see what the points seem to be at or where they were for the Fall 2008 semester.

Look forward to talking!:nuke:

There was so much information at orientation today!

Did everyone get the sections they wanted most?

I am in section 10, but I would be happy to switch out in order to get into section 9. If you or anyone you know is interested please get in touch with me.

Also if anyone wold like to sell me their working iclicker. I am interested in one.

don, at first i wanted section 9 but when it came time for me to pick a section my other three picks were already closed, but 10 was my second choice anyway.

why did you want to be in section 9? i wanted that section 9 or 10 because of the professors and i wanted 9 as my first choice because of baptist.

[color=dimgray]has anyone been able to register for classes yet?? it's says that i have been accepted into the rn prog but it still says the classes are on hold still. just curious.

mestiza81,

i wanted section 9 for the exact reasons that you did. section 10 was also my second choice, and the others i picked for third, fourth, and fifth were closed when i got to the stage. what a coincidence! i believe i was the last person to get into section 10, so i am still very happy since it was my second pick. there is every possibility that the quality of instruction will be equal to, or perhaps even slightly better than section 9.

section 10 shares most of the professors as section 9, except when it comes to the clinical instructor we have holsey instead of armstrong; however we still have armstrong for class. i don't have worthy information regarding the teaching quality of holsey versus armstrong.

from what i understand, the nursing office is waiting until friday to register us on artemis. if they had registered us today, we would have had to pay by tomorrow for our entire term 1 tuition. by them waiting until friday, we don't have to make payment until 18 december.

ms. barret said in orientation that by friday 5pm we can log into artemis and our classes will already be registered for us; then we just have to take care of making payment.

thank you for the clarification. i just remembered her mentioning that if you were able to pay today to let her know and they will allows those to register today. toward the end of orientation it got a bit hectic with the lottery. thanks again. see you in january!

Does anyone have an idea of what the lowest score was for getting into the night/weekend program? Any guesses?

jacks2009 Sorry I don't even have a guess.

Let's talk about books. I purchased all the required books and iclicker today. I spent approx. 886 dollars! I purchased the box deal that was talked about during orientation. For all the other required books that do not come in the box-package; I ordered them from half.com and by doing that I saved approx. 180 dollars. So if you are planning on buying all the required books at the bookstore, your bill will be closer to 1,066 dollars! I also purchased the iclicker from amazon.com for 33.75 (free 5 day shipping)!

If you are having to pay out-of-pocket for these items like I am, I hope you appreciate the large amount that can be saved if you buy over the internet.

The box that you buy at the bookstore does weigh approx. I'd suggest you plan ahead so you do not have to carry the 35 pound box a far distance to the parking lot like I did... unless you are looking to get some work-out-in.

Has anyone NOT been registered for their classes? I just got back today from being out of town for a couple days. I logged into Artemis and noticed that I have not been registered for my classes yet. I know they mentioned that we would be registered by 5pm yesterday.

If I remember correctly, during orientation Ms. Emily stated that we should be receiving several emails from her; with one of the emails being our student handbook. We have a quiz on the handbook on our next orientation day.

I have no received any emails regarding that yet. Have any of you?

P.S. I also just emailed Ms. Emily regarding this issue. Will update when I have a reply from her.

tma:

when i logged onto artemis friday night i was already registered for my classes and my scholarship already paid fccj. have you been receiving any of the emails that miss emily has sent out? i would email her to let her know that you have yet to be registered for your classes. (payment deadline is dec 18th)

people in sections 9 & 10:

did anyone notice that techniques/clinicals is 7a - 230p on artemis? the pink sheets handed out at the orientation on wednesday it says 7a - 130p for clinicals and class 8a - 130p.

don:

mestiza81 ,

thanks for the reply. i guess they missed putting me on their email list, i hope ms. emily is able to fix that after she reads my email. i appreciate the offer to forward the email; i will attempt to send you a pm with my email since allnurses does not like us putting that information where the public can read it.

i only just now noticed the discrepancy in the scheduling that you pointed out. i guess it would be pretty important to know ahead of time if class starts at 7am or 8am. i wonder what breaks there will be, if any, during class. 5.5 or 6.5 hours will be a long time to sit in a chair, not to mention we'd all be starving by lunch time.

Don,

You're welcome. I'm always willing to help.

I've been told by a nursing student that there are breaks, but I'm not sure of how often and for how long.

A professor said in class a few semesters back that we are allowed a break for so many hours of class, but I believe that is at the professors discretion.

I sent you the PM with my email address. Let me know if you are unable to read it. I know I wasn't able to even send you a PM until I hit 15 post count.
