FCCJ Spring 2008

Published

I guess all of you are going thru the same feelings I am right now. I have turned in my application at FCCJ for the 2008 spring term and it is killing me. The more I read on here the more frightened I get. This is my first time applying and I am so nervous!!! Any words of advice to get me thru this???

I received my uniform today that I sent back to get the next size down.... The pants fit perfect (elastic) but now the top is too small. I'm concerned that it is too tight in the shoulders to move around. Let me know if anyone out there is interested in an exchange. I have the 2 extra small tops and could use a small.

YES! Good question. Also - Does anyone know what PCT positions pay?

I couldn't find if anyone ever answered your question....my answer is NOT MUCH!! A buddy of mine got an ACP job at Baptist downtown in ICU and was only offered $10/hour, which is actually higher than what I was originally told by another employee....BUT, another girlfriend got a job on Baptist's Flex Team and she was offered a couple more dollars per hour, only has to work 4 shifts per month to keep her job, can work as much as she wants and, pretty much, makes her own schedule...great option! Good Luck Girl!!

:balloons:

Does anyone know the transcript evaluator phone number? I know it is at the downtown campus, but SJRCC is being dumb about my transcript and I do not know if they have sent it yet and the FCCJ website tells me nothing and I need it evaluated before I can apply to the program...anyone else have experience with their transcript being evaluated...like how long it takes?

transcript evaluations usually dont take too long...if you are comming in form any private universities it may take longer....

WORD TO THE WISE>> THE STUDY GUIDE BOOKS DO HELP IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO OPEN THEM!

First termers--IF you are looking to save some money on almost new books- and want study guides- I have the Fundamentals of Nursing (concepts) 8th ed. SG and the Pharmacology 5th ed SG I am willing to give them both up for $20. I ended up with 2 B's that were 1-2 pts away from A's..... so its not a bad option-- contact me(reply) if you want them

start reading ahead if you can!

umm, i don't recommend reading ahead at all! especially if you don't have your syllabi for the classes yet... your syllabi will list course objectives, so as long as you know what they want from you and study that, you should be fine.

also, stay on schedule and you will do okay.

you WILL get overwhelmed by:

- trying to get ahead of yourself (putting too much on your plate)

or

- slacking!

Can any of you who have finished your 1st term advise me about what is necessary for the b.p. cuff we need to have? I have seen ones that are calibrated, and others that specify for larger adults, children, etc....I don't know how basic it can be for our needs, but I also think one that is calibrated well is important. Thanks for your input! Happy New Year to everyone.

I just bought one of the ones in the book store... It was a basic adult cuff.. it came with directions ect... You will need to comeplete like 25 BP readings on varrious people.. i think half of them must be done on someone over 50 or something like that. I did my fiances everyday for a while.. and then his parents ( one of which has high BP and is on meds.. so it was neat to see his pre meds and post meds BPs) get em done as soon as possible after you work out your kinks of how to take BPs.. I still have trouble hearing teh sounds sometimes.. but most of the time its a piece of cake

Have you guys done the lottery yet? If so who are your instructors (cause we already know the classes)? Maybe some of us can give you a heads up on your instructors.

apparently we can't mention instructor names on allnurses. even if you're saying someting good... someone had their post on what instructors to take for pre-reqs deleted.

The reason for no instructor names on the board are:

1. We have instructors here on board who are also members. You never know if your instructor visits here.

2. You are more easily identified in your class if you and your instructor both visit here by mentioning him/her by name, in what facility, and in what class. So, no names of students or instructors.

3. We wish all to have a worry free and enjoyable experience on the board.

4. Anonymity is desired for all members....students and instructors alike.

Hope this helps.

Well it was an offer, regardless of what the mods say. Thrill a minute around here.

if members wish to discuss profs by name, send pms to each other instead. this is the way around the issue of anonymity on an open board. everyone should feel safe on our site...even instructors. we all are guests here....treating each other respectfully.

no potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.
