FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Florida

I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!

I have 223 points, but I'm also considered out-of-county (I live in St. Johns), so I was totally shocked when I got in for nights/weekends for the Summer Term. I don't think you'll have any trouble getting in with your points. Hopefully we'll be classmates! :)

I hope so. I am taking my last test in Micro tomorrow so we will see. I'll post as soon as I get my grade and I know what points I am working with. Hopefully we will be classmates for the nts/wknd. I am going to get my application in as soon as grades post. I think it is next week some time.

Congrats! I have my last test tomorrow in Micro. I am hoping for nights/weekends as well. Hope to see you there!:yeah:

Good luck for your final, I hope you do well. I have no idea what points will be needed to get into the nights and weekends, but if I am not mistaken, someone did get accepted into the N&W for the summer term with points around 206. I also believe they had to decline due to the classes being held at North campus. I am under the assumption that there are more applicants for the fall, but there are also more seats. However, I think that N&W do not have any additional seats so the competition may be higher in the fall. Regardless, this is my future and I will go into whichever class has an opening for me, be it days or nights.:D

Eve/WE program is always 24 slots regardless.

Hello all! This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right. I am taking my pre-req's at FSCJ. I'm hoping I get in to the nursing program sometime in 2011. I'm posting my situation here because I need specifics from the Nursing Program clinicals @ FSCJ. Ok, here goes:

I had a 2nd degree felony drug charge arrest 13 years ago. The charge was withheld after I did my 6 months probation. That was my first and only arrest. I am fully aware of the BON's rules about this offence. In 2 more years, I will have reached the 15 year mark. (Meaning I will be able to get a nursing license) I have e-mailed "the head" of the FSCJ nursing program about this. I was told that my offence would not interfere with me getting in to the program but that it is up to the hospital professional to decide if I can do clinicals there. I even went so far as to call a local hospital and talk to their HR dept about the situation. They were very nice and I was told it was a case by case basis.

My past from when I was 18 is here to haunt me. I have always wanted to have a career in nursing. Please, if any of you have heard of situations like mine or have seen someone have to quit the nursing program due to not being able to do clinicals, let me know. I have no problem being honest about this with hospitals or any other professionals. I would, however, be very embarrased and crushed if I had to quit because of this. :o

Good luck to all of the Fall 2010 hopefuls!

To my knowledge, no one has been tossed out because of criminal pasts. I can't say what the hospitals will do about your felony conviction. Felonies are always tougher to deal with. I believe that it will be a combination of how long ago it was and what the crime was specifically.

I know of a student with 2 misdemeanors who had no problem getting into clinicals. I don't know of anyone with a felony, so I can't speak to that.

The main hospital you have to be concerned with is Baptist. Wolfson is a Baptist hospital and the ONLY hospital we have for Peds. If Baptist won't let you do clinicals, there is no way you can do the program.

The 'good' news is that they will send your criminal background to all the hospitals before you get started. If you can't do the clinicals, you will find out early enough to withdraw.

I wish you luck.

I figured everyone has already applied to the program by now. I took the NAT today and made 97.92. I really REALLY want to get in this fall but I highly doubt that I will. I only have half of my prereqs completed and chem doesn't count when calculating points. So with everything I have 135.92. I'm taking 17 hours this summer. I really hope I get in but I might have to wait until the Spring '11.

Could anyone tell me what is the night & weekend program and if there is a program for days? I don't know much about the nursing program and I need all the information I can get my hands on.

I seem to remember them saying do NOT contact any of the hospitals, that they will find out.

I am applying for the Fall 2010 program at FSCJ! =)

I just took my NAT test today...it wasn't hard but some of the questions were just time consuming. It seems my total points are 179. I was really hoping to at least get 180. My GPA is 3.7 and my points from my classes alone are 101 minus Microbiology because I haven't completed it yet. I am doing nights and weekends hopefulyl starting in fall but a lot of people seem to have about 200 points so I am very worried. Does anyone know what the starting points are just to be considered a hopeful candidate?

I believe the cutoff for summer was near 197, but there are also more seats available in the fall, so it could be lower. Good luck to you!! :)

Well it's official. I got an A in Micro. I was so happy. As soon as grades post I am going to apply for Fall term. I will be applying with 222.44. Hopefully this is enough for nights and weekends.

What chemistry did most of you take? 1032 or 1025??? I know the grade is not included for the points, but does it matter which CHM you take?

Just to let everyone know. I spoke with a counselor at FSCJ south campus a couple of days ago and she advised me the cut off for the Summer 2010 program was 197 points for daytime, but that the Fall program will accept double the amount of students, therefore the points should go down. Last Fall the points cut off was 193 points. I have exactly 193 points now and have finished all of my prereqs and took the NAT. I am retaking the NAT 5/27/10 to try to get a higher score, I got an 81 the 1st time, but only took it as a practice round and have to wait 90 days to retake it, which falls only a couple days before the application deadline which is 6/1/10. I'm so nervous and hope that I can increase my score on the NAT. My classes are over, so I am going to practice reading comprehension and the math everyday between now and the 27th, because those are the two sections that the time cut off on me and I had the lowest score on. Fingers crossed! Also, does any one know if it is exactly 90 days in between that I can retake the NAT or is it 90 business days?
