Hi all,
I am taking my NAT again Wednesday and have some questions..
What are the highest scores for each section? The way it seems is the highest score you can get is:
90 Academic Aptitude
20 Reading Comp.
90 Natural Science
this total multiplied by .64 gives just over 120 total points possible.
I wasn't sure what I was doing last time I took the exam, and frankly had no idea about this program when I was taking the pre-reqs, so my total points from pre-reqs is "87". I need at least 100 points on my NAT to even have a chance. Any suggestions? I'm studying with the ARCO book for a few days before the exam. I didn't even study last time I took it and got 82 points total

I'm not trying to discourage by any means, but my friend did all her pre reqs for the nursing program at FSCJ (I attend there too) and she passed all her pre reqs with a 3.9 and made a 100 on NAT ... and did not get it. She has applied for 3 different semesters with the same scores (a waste of time) and still has been declined. The RN program is VERY competitive, I'm sure you know. The best advice I can give you is to do what she is doing now and re take the classes you struggled in and try to make a high A. She made a B in college alegebra and shes going to retake it to get an A. (hopefully will increase her chances of getting in) The RN program in my opinion is screwed up because it not really based on grades its based on POINTS you can have a 3.0 or 2.9 but previously been a LPN and get in because of the point system. Anyway, good luck my dear I hope everything works out for you.

At FCCJ, FSCJ, whatever you call it, there is no "high A" or anything like that. Its simply an A, B, C grade. They don't go by gpa exactly, its a point system as you said you have 87 points from your prereqs. If you take a 3 credit class and get an A, it is worth 12 points total (4pts x 3 credits). If you have 87 points from your pre-reqs, I would shoot to get at least a 104 on the NAT for a total over 190pts. since 190 something was the cutoff for fall I believe? If you received passing grades (C or better) and you took those classes at FCCJ, you cannot retake them there anyway. I spoke with more than 1 dean trying to retake a statistics class and they will not let you- you would have to go to SJRCC or somewhere else. Your best bet is to do REALLY well on the NAT. Goodluck to you!! :)

Does anyone think a 196.2 would be an in? I just applied today , and I am nervous. I see a bunch of people talking about 200's on here:) Also, There was a girl applying the same time I was with 200 as well.

Because of the economy, there is an increase in career transitioners.....who are focusing on the medical profession (stability). That being said, I don't believe a 187 would be competitive enough anymore.....190 would be borderline. I believe anyone with over 200 pts is a shoe-in.For the poster that "complained" that FCCJ/FSCJ's point system is "not fair", I would humbly disagree. I also would dispute your friend's alleged grades/NAT score. I got ~3.7 on pre-reqs and that was 110 pts. If your friend had a 3.9, her course points would have been higher than mine! Add 100 to my score and the applicant would have had 207 pts. (I got 107 on the NAT for a total of 217) There is NO way that set (gpa = 3.9 and 100 on NAT) would not have gotten that candidate accepted....much less for 3 semesters!I know that people get frustrated or sad when they aren't accepted, but people, in Eve/WE group last term (our first), we lost 3 classmates due to failing a class. (Failing is anything below 80.) These were smart people. The first term is TOUGH! Most of the students who were used to ALL A's were OK with their 3.0's for the term. A standard saying in NS is: "C means CONTINUE!". The lower your point score, the less likely you are to make it through the program.

You might want to make sure your friend is telling the truth. If she got "A"s in everything but College Algebra and in that she got a "B", then I don't see how she did not get in. Unless she did none of the other classes that go to your points as well.
I think 196 should be enough to get in. Even with the economy the way it is, people still have to get the pre-reqs and other classes done. I would think next summer would be very hard to get in.

If C = Continue, how is less than 80% fail? I thought 70-80% was a C????
If your friend has that many points she may not live in Duval or Nassau county and if she doesnt, she will never get in or anytime soon. If you do not live in those two countys, you have to wait until everyone with 120 points or more get in and they still need positions which is doubtful. No matter if you have 260 points, you will not get in.
As already said, you cannot retake a class you got a C or better in.

At FSCJ (for their nursing program), an 80-85 is a C, 86-92 is a B, 93-100 is an A. Anything less than an 80 is an F.
As for the original poster's question, I did nothing the first time I took it and then read the book and my points went up at least 10 points. It is the same test as the one you took the first time, but I think if you just think about the question and go into confident, you should be fine. =) Good luck!!
Thats the strangest grading scale I have ever seen. You get a 5 point range for a C? A 6 point range for a B and a 7 point range for an A? Why didnt they just say get less than a B and your out? I would be pretty upset if I got a 79% and they put a F on my transcript.
It's not just our nursing program. That grading scale is used in most programs.

I have just turned in my application for Jan '10 start. I scored a 120 on the NAT and had a total of 231 points with the points for classes. I do however, live in Clay county so I am nervous about not being accepted. Does anyone know how they decide how many "out of area" student's they will accept?
