Hello all! Just thought I'd start a thread for all of those folks that have submitted, or are getting ready to submit, their applications for FCCJ's Fall '08 term.
I will be submitting my application in a few weeks, when this Spring term ends. I have taken my NAT (twice), so I'm good to go there, but still need to get my CPR class done. I called several places & I'm waiting to hear back from them.
I look forward to chatting with & getting to know all of you, who will be doing the count-down with me... on getting our acceptance letters!!!
I know it helps to sound-board off each other & to lean on each other for support... especially with getting all the things done that we have to do!
Best of luck & success to all!!!
"actor/comedian bernie mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a chicago area hospital," his publicist, danica smith, said in a statement from los angeles.
the comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. he recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.
tsayuga :: thanks for the info on the payment deadline. my financial aid hasn't been approved, yet, and i'm still waiting to see what worksource says.
So guys, here's one for you. I get up this morning, go have breakfast with my best friend, bragging about all I have left to do is chapter 13 in dosage calc and get a call from my husband while he is at work to tell me, long story short, that he is moving out! How the F am I suppose to deal with all this 2 weeks before school?
wow jlike i am so sorry, were you guys having problems, or is this a total suprise? god that would be hard to deal with, with everything else that you have on your plate! but hey at least these next 16 months will keep you so busy, you'll hardly have time to worry about it.
question: has anyone else been able to get the student handbook? I never got an e-mail and I don't see any info in the nursing tutor, or orientation section.
jlike: i am so sorry to hear about that. is he crazy or something?!?!? that is so uncool and to do it over the phone what a lame!!! you tell him that nurse-n-2010 can kick some serious butt and she wants to holla at em!!!
no but for real though, remember we are your family now and we will give you the emotional support to get through this. i hope this gives you more drive to finish school. i do hope the two of you can work things out. but if ya'll can't then know thats ok too. good luck!!!

hey guys this was my 100th post, bossladii got cupcakes and i want some too ha ha!
going to Baptist in Nassau ( Fernandina) or Memorial.
Go to Baptist Nassau, I live here so it was an easy decision for me then but having been to all the other hospitals (except for a few) I can say with certainty that Baptist Nassau is an excellent facility for baby nurses. The patients are all stable, little old men and ladies with COPD and dementia. The nurse,as a general rule, are pleasant. The nurses at alot of the other facilities are burned out on student nurses.
Someone asked about P. Gill-absolute fantastic instructor-she is dynamic and engaging and really knows her stuff. I just finished adult health 2 with her. There's also a new instructor, Joanie Boyd. SHe just (like, last week) resigned as a charge nurse at St. Vincent's. She's very personable, patient and knows her stuff too.
For the one who said her husband "left" her over the phone....I'm sorry to hear it. But if there is one bit of wisdom I can impart to all of you, it is this. There is a DIRECT correlation between the amount of stress and drama in your life and your test grades. The more drama, the worse your test grades will be. Beginning in 9 days, you will have tests on average every other week (except for Christmas break), and when the tests aren't there, the projects are. This schedule goes for 16 months, and in term 1, there are sometimes 2 tests every Monday.
Someone asked about moving around to different hospitals in term 1-No. You move to different hospitals by changing your clinical location each term. I've been to Baptist Nassau, Memorial, Baptist DT, Wolfson (all Peds clinicals are at Wolfson), Womens Pav at Baptist, now I'm at St. Vincent's. You will start your clinicals in about week 8 of the first semester. In the meantime, you'll have 2 simulation days, dress up in your tighty whiteys and play in the lab. The Term 1 clinicals are typically a grind-you'll be bathing patients, feeding patients, changing sheets and occassionaly you'll get an insulin/lovenox/heparin injection. I didn't get my first IV until about 4 weeks ago, got my first FOley in term 4.
Be prepared, we started with 96 students. Of those original 96, only about 72-75 will make it to next Monday's pinning ceremony. We lost 17 in Adult Health 1 alone. When they say 80 is passing with no rounding they mean it-of those 17 that didn't pass, I'd say 8-10 of them had a 79.5 or higher.
I'm not starting work until the new year. If any of you have questions or need help, let me know by PM. I'll do what I can to help.

hawkfdc :: Congratulations!! So will you be employed as a "Graduate Nurse" when you start in '09? How long after completing the program do students usually take the NCLEX?
This is amazing! I'm so excited right now I'm about to scream!!! This is becoming sooo real now. I know when I actually get started I will have more complaints than a little bit. But right now...I'M HAPPY!!
Wow you guys are really busy. One day of not reading posts and it's like sitting to read a novel.
Jlike I am really sorry to hear about your husband and you. I have no words that are capable of calming your fears and this unexpected change in your life. However ,I am here (I realize you don't know me) should you ever need a friend. Lord knows I have had my share (and still do) of unhealthy drama to deal with. Still breathing albeit sometimes unwillingly..lol.
As for the rest of my newfound family I too am in need of a support system. My sister is currently undergoing an autologous stem cell transplant at Moffet Center in Tampa. She has been fighting Hodgekins lymphoma since January of '07. A year of a mixture of chemo and radiation resulted in a two week period of being "clear". So now it's Tampa, where she is at now. I can't be there to help her and do this program so I have to let go and let my mom and aunt carry the brunt of being her caretakers. I feel helpless. Anyway, for those of you who pray please keep my sister Toni in your prayers. Thanks so much everyone. Sorry for the novel of my own. :[anb]:

Bossladii - How did he die?? I liked watching his show where he had his nieces and nephew. He was pretty young!
The payment deadline is Aug 14th right? Do we have to pay the full tuition?
You don't have to pay the full tuition if you set up a payment plan online through artemis. If you have problems with payment, or just want to confirm that everything is indeed taken care of then you should visit a business office afterwards. They can check everything for you. Also, you can find the numbers to all of the offices and anyone who works for the college through www.fccj.edu , just go to directory (under the picture of the person). I love the directory because it tells you the phone number, email address, office number, campus and title. I'm all about being able to talk to my teachers!
