FCCJ Fall 2008

Published

Hello all! Just thought I'd start a thread for all of those folks that have submitted, or are getting ready to submit, their applications for FCCJ's Fall '08 term.

I will be submitting my application in a few weeks, when this Spring term ends. I have taken my NAT (twice), so I'm good to go there, but still need to get my CPR class done. I called several places & I'm waiting to hear back from them.

I look forward to chatting with & getting to know all of you, who will be doing the count-down with me... on getting our acceptance letters!!!

I know it helps to sound-board off each other & to lean on each other for support... especially with getting all the things done that we have to do!

Best of luck & success to all!!!

hi everyone!!!

okay for the people who did or are doing worksource and if you have already went to your appt, how did it go? (my appt is on thurs right after my dna fringerprinting.) i was a little nervous when i talked to the guy john bolin over the phone to even set up the appt. the way he asked the questions (about job, gpa, ssc, etc) made me feel like saying nevermind!! he was a little mean to be honest. he asked if i had a pell grant and i said no. he was like what are you going to do if you don't get the scholarship? i said that i was unsure and was still waiting word from financial aid. then he was like well how do you know if you don't have a pell grant? i told him because it tells you right away (online) but it also says "you may qualify for other grants and loans, your application is being processed." which it always says even when i go in person, they always say "i am sorry ms. harris but you only qualify for loans."

so needless to say i probably wont get any help from worksource. i am still going to the appt on thursday but gesh, that man has me scared to even talk to him. will it be actually be him or do they have more people doing the interviews?

thanks in advance!!:heartbeat

i have an appt with him tomorrow @ 1:30. i am nervous too! you are very correct on how he talks to people...

It has your IV lines and catheter lines....stuff like that but it does not have a stethoscope or BP cuff or pen light. You have to buy those separately.

To the people who asked about Worksource - I had my appt on Monday and it was great. There's probably a big discrepancy between offices but the lady here in Macclenny was so nice. You have the fill out a bunch of papers beforehand. Did you guys get those yet? Anyway, I turned those papers in and she made copies of our tax stuff, our birth certificates, transcripts, etc. It was pretty quick and she said there should be no problem getting tuition paid for. We're not poor (don't qualify for Pell Grant) but poor enough that it's going to be a strain. Don't let that guy bully you. There's money available! Good luck, let me know how your appts go. I should find out for sure by Monday.

For Worksource:

Don't be nervous, just show him that you need the money. Make sure you have all your papers, you'll be just fine.

I have an appointment with the health department tomorrow to determine if I can get a reduced cost papsmear and then to get the papsmear. I am gonna have to cancel, because I just don't have the money. I didn't know if it would be possible or cheaper to get this stuff from them. Does anyone know that?

I live in Clay and I checked with the health dept here. The only thing I could get from them was tetorifice. They don't do titers, or ppd. They don't even do physicals. I was like what exactly do you do? Northside Med is probably the cheapest place to get everything done. I was going to go to solantic for the physical and get the tetorifice from the health dept but when I compared prices, it really was a lot cheaper and since you have to go there for you drug screen anyway.....They are walk in so no appt necessary. Their phone #764-5000.

Ok guys, I just want to tell everyone here to be very greatful to have gotten into this program. A really good friend of mine, and someone I've taken several classes with wasn't. She only missed by like three points. Less than three but more than two. She informed me that 463 students applied and only 168 got accepted!! I am very, very sad for her:bluecry1:. Now I feel all alone in this:aln:. But at least I'm in. Thank God we who are in, are in. The difference of one point could've smashed our hopes for this term. All I'm saying is,(I'm sure you are already) be greatful and humbled by this opportunity. *HUGS* Joy

okay, glad i'm not the only one. please let us know how it goes with your appt. i am sure you will have no problem though. i don't have any kids so i hope i still have a shot. if not then i sure hope those students loans will be big enough. even with me getting that summer job i am still in need of more money. i've been charging all of this stuff!!! i dunno....... but i am sure everything will work out:p

FloridRNtoBe:

(1) This has been a humbling experience for me. I can probably speak for many others as well in saying that I am EXTREMELY grateful for this opportunity.

(2) I'm sooo sorry your friend did not make it. But by all means you will not be alone. We are all in the same boat and will be doing this right along with you.

(3) Congrats on getting In to the Program!! Can't wait to meet you soon!!

If you have any questions let me know.

FloridaRNtobe:

Tell your friend to hang in there...almost my entire section and the other section I am with are made up of people who did not get in at first, but when a seat opened, they got in...=)

Gosh-you guys have this thread up to 56 pages, and you're just getting your acceptance letters....check back in a year and hardly anyone will be talking.

lol. yea, we won't have time for anything except studying. :specs:

Now that I have the packet, I feel like I have so many questions!

I'm going to do the medical stuff tomorrow, and I'm not sure if I have all of my vaccinations. We will see how that turns out.

Does anyone know what on Meridy's list that we HAVE to buy from them and what we can get somewhere else?

You guys keep talking about blood pressure cuffs and other extra stuff that I just can't find in the paperwork. Do we need more than what the acceptance letter says? If so, what is it that we need?

I'm trying to plan money out with my husband, we just bought a house and are very broke, lol. I'm just trying to cut corners where I can that won't hurt me.

On the Merridy list...You have to buy from Them: 2 FCCJ uniform tops, Lab Coat, Name Pins. Items you can buy elsewhere: Uniform pants (white), khaki pants, shoes (all white and leather). Accessories you need to purchase: bP cuff, stethescope, scissors, watch, and a pen light (questionable). The khaki pants you can purchase through Merridy or just buy your own. The blue polo has to be purchased through a separate company. Believe me everything is quite pricey, but you will get through it. Also certain things I will wait to purchase until we see specifically what our professors want ( whenever we find that out). Good luck with everything!! Hope this was somewhat helpful.
