FCCJ Fall 2008

Published

Hello all! Just thought I'd start a thread for all of those folks that have submitted, or are getting ready to submit, their applications for FCCJ's Fall '08 term.

I will be submitting my application in a few weeks, when this Spring term ends. I have taken my NAT (twice), so I'm good to go there, but still need to get my CPR class done. I called several places & I'm waiting to hear back from them.

I look forward to chatting with & getting to know all of you, who will be doing the count-down with me... on getting our acceptance letters!!!

I know it helps to sound-board off each other & to lean on each other for support... especially with getting all the things done that we have to do!

Best of luck & success to all!!!

Ughhhh...still no mail in the box. I was told we wouldn't be getting anything until the end of this month when I turned my application in, but I assumed they would send them sooner. I also knew about the change of directors, but heard from another source that the current one was going to stay till the end of summer. This is quite aggravating!!! I sure do hope they get their stuff together and organize the program. Changing things midstream is not cool in my book. Whew...just venting a little bit. I know patience is def something we all need through this process. Hang in there everyone!!!

Here's my two-cents...

I think the nice lady is giving out that info because she's not supposed to give out info... if ya know what I mean.

We still have orientation to attend, and many things to do before that. Orientation should be around the 1st or 2nd week of August. It would be next to impossible to get all of those things done before that, if the letters don't go out till the end of July... I'm calling bull$#!% on that lady's info.

Isn't all of this fun?:yeah:Yeah, I can't wait to see what happens when we actually start the program... I'm assuming they are prepping us for something.

Where are the rest of my peeps today? I haven't heard from you regulars yet... I can't wait to hear y'alls replys to this latest and greatest info.

Yeah..I sure do hope you are right. Yet, who knows they might just make it near to impossible to get all of this done to see who can really handle the pressure. Although, I would most defintely not wish this on anyone, it could happen. Let's hope for a letter sooner, rather than later.

hahaha..I feel like we're on a reality game show right now. If I had to choose one, I would say we are like the show "Survivor" right now. Let's see who can Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast. lol..Just thought it would be nice to add a little comedic relief to all of this. Hope everyone is having a good day!!!:D

Well, someone's already got their mail today so I'll wait until tomorrow morning to become crazy again. We've been getting lots of conflicting info about the letters. Guess time will tell.

Well I didn't kill anyone at the mailbox today (only because no one was there at the time!!!!) I am furious right now!! I don't care if they did change directors or not, they need to get their S@#$ together. You would think that by now they could figure things out. Since I first starting coming on this website(last year) everyone talked about how disorganized FCCJ was. The forums dated as early as 2006.:argue: This is crazy, maybe they should be the ones waiting on letters for a class on ORGANIZATION SKILLS!! Sorry guys just venting here. :saint: I just want to have enough time to do everything that needs to be done.

Well another day...........

LOL! I've tried the "well, I work at South Campus..." bit and North Campus still doesn't budge. I've even asked a few people higher up if they could ask and they just say that the nursing department won't answer them either!

I am sure they are overworked and have a lot more on their plate now. All of FCCJ does. And I'm sure there are reasons they don't answer some of these questions, like psycho people who decide to get in when they weren't accepted or something. I can imagine how many times they get asked the same questions over and over. I just wish there was more room for planning...like more time for the people who don't get in to find a second plan. That is the main thing I'm worried about.

What else can I do if I don't get into nursing?

I would have to make a whole new plan of EVERYTHING.

Well everything happens for a reason. It is gonna be ok, one way or another. We can do this ya'll!;)

I am roflmao right now! I've been following this thread for a long time too. I'm in the night/weekend track that started in May 08 and looking-for-miracles put it best when she said if you're stressing this much now you better get your happy pills ready for when you start.

My suggestion is to remember this excitement and that you WANTED to be in the nursing program. You chose FCCJ for a reason. Say what you will about being disorganized but its one of if not THE least expensive ADN program and has an NCLEX pass rate that is consistently over 90%.

This evening in class EVERYONE was b****ing and moaning about a change to an assignment for one class and another useless study guide that was sent out for another class. It struck me the just 10 weeks ago we were chomping at the bit to get started and now all we do is complain. ***** When you guys get in, and I'm sure you all will :D, PLEASE remember the excitement of just the anticipation of getting in the program. I wish that previous students would have told me this.

I may get flamed for this post but I'm still chuckling because if you think this waiting is bad, you guy's are in for such a rude awakening at orientation when you find out exactly what IN that skills kit you just paid $87.00 for and what you'll actually NEED. Oh, and just when you think you've gotten all of your books, they just may spring another one on you.

Oh, btw, if any other first termers tell you otherwise they're lying!!! LOL

MLBLMT, what exactly is in the skills kit?? What outside of the skills kit will we have to purchase on our own??

The skills kit is a bunch of crap that you won't need or use in class until you take the final techniques simulation. Its got syringes, IV catheters, a foley catheter, dressing change kit and some other stuff. Actually, I take that back, you will use some of the stuff before then but I'm still trying to figure out why it was $87.00

You'll need to get a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff, a BIG back pack with 2 straps and use both. LOTS of printer ink and paper, LOL. Reading glasses cuz your eyes are gonna give out from all the reading you'll have to do.:D

i disagree, if you're a good apple, you'll use your skills kit to practice above and beyond the lab hours they want you to put in BEFORE the simulation! i wish i had done that... it will bite you in the orifice in adult health 1 if you don't practice. adult health 1 is really the only time you get to become really confident in your skills, beyond that you are expected to know what you are doing (well, you're expected to know what you're doing on the floor, but i hope you get what i mean, haha). techniques was total BS, maybe because of the instructor or hospital i went to; the only thing we got to do was pass meds, maybe give a subq or IM injection... otherwise, it was just CNA work.
