FCCJ Fall '09???

Published

Anyone else planning on applying to FCCJ's nursing program for Fall '09? I figured we might as well start a "support group" thread of sorts for those of us who are. Never too early to start, right?

Taking the NAT tomorrow after Microbiology... I am so nervous Help!!

Thanks GatorGirl Nurse!

I'm applying for Fall 09 as well. I'm taking the NAT today at Kent campus, and live in Clay county.

p.s. - first post!

I aced that test! :yeah:

verbal - 98th percentile

arithmetic - 99th

nonverbal - 99th

spelling - 92nd :imbar

reading comp - 99th

science - 98th

That gives me a total points of 203.8 and that's without having sociology and human growth and development factored in. I can also get an additional 10 points if my former employer ever sends me the letter listing my 2 years with them (EMT).

Should I go ahead and send it in with the 203 points or wait for the letter to get to 213?

You could wait for the additional points but the deadline is coming up... I took the NAT today and will be applying with 219.86 points! I was so nervous about the NAT didnt do great in spelling but since they take acad aptitude, reading comp and science, I got a 119.86 on the test + 100 points pre-reqs without microbiology. Do you think that is good enough to get a spot for sure? I dont like waiting to find out....

Hello all!

I applied for FCCJ fall '09 today! I am very hopeful! I applied with 206 points. I hear the cut-off is usually around 185 so hopefully I will get in no problem. I took the NAT and all of my percentiles were 93% and higher so that helped out alot. All of my prereqs are done and I just have the 11 nursing courses to do- I hope I make it!

Also, are there any current students or anyone else who can tell me more about the schedule once you get in? I have looked at the schedule outside of the nursing office, but they are confusing. How do they determine what "section" you are in? I just want to know what to expect when it comes to number of days per week- 3? 4? 5? HELP!

Good luck to everyone! See ya in nursing school!

My first semester I went 4 days just about every week. But not they have alot of hybrid classes and do the test differently, so you may not have to go that much. At orientation, they hand out the schedules, you get a little break, and then you come back and they let you pick your section by lottery. Then, for the semesters after that, you have to sign up online at a designated time.

Thanks so much! One more question too for anyone who knows- I am going to school on Bright Futures. I am wondering the extent that they pay for the nursing program- I know that they don't usually pay for summer courses. Is this true for the nursing program? Do we get the full schedule during summer? I need to know how much I am going to have to pay for this summer if I do need to do so.

I would look into Worksource...I have Bright Futures and they do not pay for summer, no matter what. If you filled out a FAFSA, if you have money left over, you can use that. Once you are in the program, you go straight through at a pace they have already set. Some semesters you are considered full time, others you are not. But it is very time consuming no matter what semester you are in, so I do not get that but whatever. It is getting me where I need to be =).

Hi, my name is Jordyn and am applying for fall 2009 too! I just took the NAT today and got 115 points toward my score of 109 for my grades (without micro which I am taking this summer). So, according to other posts I think my total points of 224 should be enough to get in! Im really excited! I do have some advice for the NAT. I bought the book from FCCJ that they recommended and studied like crazy, but I don't think the practice tests in it were anything like the NAT. There are no synonym, antonym, or analogy sections on the test and hardly any math. The science in the book is ways harder than the science on the test. There is a spelling section which I did the worst on, on account of I hadn't heard of 80% of the words before. Overall the test was way easier than the practice book made it out to be. I was wondering if anyone knew more about the schedule at least for the first semester?? Also, does anyone know which semester clinicals start and which hospitals are available to do them at?? I work pretty much full time right now during the days, but I don't think I will be able to continue once fall comes around. Thanks for the help! Good luck to everyone who is taking the NAT soon and I am looking forward to meeting you guys:)

Correction on my last reply: 89 for grades, so 204.84 is my total score. You can tell Im not very good with math haha:)

Ok, wow I feel really dumb, but I recalculated my score and it came out to be 216.84 lol. Geez you think they'll let me in nursing school if I can't even calculate my points hahaha:)
