Anyone else planning on applying to FCCJ's nursing program for Fall '09? I figured we might as well start a "support group" thread of sorts for those of us who are. Never too early to start, right?

Hello everyone! I applied with 194.64 points and live in Duval. I got my acceptance letter on Saturday. Does anyone know when the nights and day classes are? What hours...etc.

I'm finishing up first term, there are several folks in my class who bought the lower priced scopes from the bookstore, they have done just as well as the higher priced ones.

While I was at the Nursing Dept today I was looking at the other terms schedule and on their Registration Schedule it says:
"
1. Class and Clinical schedules will vary and students SHOULD NOT make work or other commitments until the semester begins and schedule have been finalized.
3. Typically, DAYTIME classes are offered during the daytime (8am- 6pm). However, it may be neccessay to schedule classes during the evening, e.g. 6pm- 9pm.
4. Typically, EVENING/WEEKEND classes are scheduled from 6pm- 10pm weeknights and clinicals from 7am- 7pm onweekends. But, it may be neccessary to attend some scheduled activies such as course testing/special events and/or clinical site orientation during the day.
8. All student testing is scheduled during out of class time on Mondays. ALL TESTING IS ON MONDAY FOR DAY AND WEEKEND/EVENING STUDENTS. Days Term I test 3:00-5:15pm. Days Term II test 9:15-10:15 am. Days Term III test 10:30-11:30 and 1:330- 2:30 pm. Days Term IV test 9:00- 10:00am. Evening/Weekend students test 6:00- 8:15 pm.
Those numbers missing talks about general things instructors, clinical experience, etc.
If you want I could add those but I thought it would answer the questions on schedule times (possibly).

I wonder about the stethscope question as well I saw some kits in the bookstore with the stethscope/bp cuff and carrying case for $45? and I also saw the stethoscope with the pocket protector w/ everything we need in the pockets except the hemostate.

I would not get a BP cuff if you know someone that has one. You only use it for Health Assessment for about two weeks. I would not get the lab coat either. It was a waste of money as most people just wore a regular jacket or a white undershirt.
Some of the night/weekend groups are at Deerwood and some are at North. It just depends on what semester you are in.
First term classes go from either 9-12 or 1-4, with Techniques being from 7-3. Second term, its more like 8-12 or 1-5. Clinicals in first term are til about 1:30 and 2nd term about 3.
As for the stethoscope, don't get something you cannot afford. All of my nurses have had really nice stethoscopes so when there was something cool to hear, they would just let me use theirs. No sense trying to make yourself go broke over it.
Idk, Im thinking I miss spelled it, I didnt have the list in front of me. I think its like some climp thingy.
