Favorite Voice Recorder?

I have a co-worker that has a digital voice recorder and he loves it. I can check out the brand name if you want. I am interested in one but I want to hear one of his lectures to see how bad it is with background noise and such.

Hi! I am looking into buying a voice recorder for class and would like your opinions. Do you have a favorite? I want to be able to download the lectures I record into the computer and burn them to a CD. Does anyone's do this?

I have a Olympus digital recorder. I can download stuff on CD. Got it at Best Buy for ca.$60.00. It's been very much a lifesaver.

I have the same kind as stpauligirl. The only problem with buying one is that some instructors dont want you recording their classes. :madface: I got my first one this semester who doesnt want us to record. It is totally changing the way I study, but maybe it is for the best. I am having to read my chapters a little deeper. I guess it could be a good thing. Somehow I bet the instructors in the program wont want anyone taping either. I could be wrong.

I have a Sony ICD-ST25, I absolutely love it (I got it 3 years ago, I'm sure there is a newer model but this one works fantastic). I download it to my computer...put on my headphones and listen to lectures while I study. I also speed up the lecture (it does not distort at all because it is digital) so I can listen to 2 hour lecture in a much shorter amount of time. I can burn it to CD or upload it to my website. I've never had a problem with background noise at all. I always ask the instructors if I may record thier lecture, so far I've never been denied my request...I'd never record a lecture without asking permission however.

I like my Olympus as well. I can burn lectures on a CD and listen to them while running errands on the weekends, or back and forth on my work commute.

I have never encountered a professor who would prohibit taping.

But in any event since I am a student with a disability they must let me tape the lecture regardless of their opinion.

I couldn't even imagine NOT taping my current A&P 2 class....he is a scattered lecturer, he is very fast and he doesn't write much stuff on the board. We have never had any visual aids during his presentation either....Verrrrrrry frustrating. Especially if he doesn't follow the book, he despises our book and his notes are from other sources. It's frustrating but taping saves the day....hopefully the grade, too.

That's what I did for A&P 1. I miss my old instructor. I was definitly more confident in her class. I just dont really understand why an instructor wouldnt allow taping.

Some professors are afraid that someone might take their words out of context on a voice recorder. Also, perhaps the professor has been burned in the past by a voice recorder.

And, last but not least, they might be afraid that the person recording might give their recordings to the next semester's class.

I want to forewarn everyone...I'm a geek! :specs:

I have an Olympus from target $59.00 and it's worth every penny! It has the usb cable, so you're able to upload files to your computer. I then change the file to an mp3 with a low bitrate. I download the file to my flash card which fits into my cell phone. I can then listen to the lecture with my cell phones earpiece.

When I had micro, I uploaded the lectures to my computer. Then at bedtime, I would open the lecture up with media player set on repeat. A passive way to learn.

That's lame that a teacher wouldn't allow recording. Time to go spy tech.You can get an olympus that will record longer, for maybe 70ish? That might be a better deal for the teachers that forbid recording. You wouldn't want your recorder to beep at the 2 hour mark.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your responses, I will probably end up with the Olympus, I have heard good things about that one. I just wanted to make sure that I was able to burn the discs. I know that I can record the lectures at my nursing school. This was actually a recommendation from a current student. I was however in a class and the teacher had it on their syllabus that we couldn't record. They said it was distracting, go figure! KingFu -- your computer technie ability scares me! LOL! Hopefully I will be able to figure out how to download and burn to a CD so that I can listen to the lectures again in my car, nevermind trying to figure out how to download to my IPOD!
