FAU Fall 2015 FNP applicants

Published

Hello. Just checking if anyone else is submitting their application for FAU's FNP program for fall 2015? I'm curious how many applicants they generally receive each cycle and how many they accept.

I replied twice. Sorry didn't think the 1st message went through. But I'll definitely let you guys know if I hear anything.

Wow you both have so much experience! I only have a little over 2 1/2 years on the floor, but I graduated from an accelerated nursing program at UM, so I have another degree before Nursing. I'm assuming you applied for the Davie campus?? I applied for Boca. My interview was also March 31st! i guess at this point, we just cross our fingers. I wish you both the best of luck, I hope we all get in! :)

Another thing: I'm so used to a lot of people I went to nursing school with already graduating with their Masters. We graduated 4 years ago, and one girl already became a DNP. So I thought having 2 1/2 years of

experience was a good chunk of experience, but now I'm not so sure!!

Whether it's 2 yrs or 8, the fact that you have experience is great. There's people in my theory class with only 2 yrs experience & their in the program. Don't worry. I applied to UM, had a great interview & still didn't get in. So it isn't always based on experience. It all comes down to the people who interview you & if they feel you're a good candidate.

The situation at UM I believe came down to GPA. The girls who applied had 3.8 & 3.9 GPA and got in. I was disappointed but I believe when one door closes its because God has something better. What's for you will be for you is my belief.

You and I had an interview the same day & they never mentioned not having enough seats for everyone. I thought it was odd. But they asked me like 3-4 questions but they were based on my personal statement. They literally pulled up my statement on the computer, read from it & asked me questions from it .... Lol ( I thought it was funny ) because I thought that they would pretty much ask everyone the same generic questions.

Also the situation at UM. The people who interviewed me only made a recommendation & it was up to a committee to decide ( someone who never met me) if I was a " good candidate ". Which I don't believe to be right. But hey that's water under the bridge. Have to move on í ½í¸‰

They only asked me two questions: was I a part of any nursing organization like a sorority or national club, etc. And no, im not, because I was in a one-year accelerated nursing program with no room to breathe, let alone participate in extra-curricular activities.

The other question was where I see myself in 5 years. I can't remember any other questions, I think it was just those two. I elaborated on how I see myself working in women's health, to which they asked if I ever considered a women's health NP degree, but I said no because I don't want to pigeon hole myself like that. I'd rather learn about all different age groups. I wonder if I was being too honest. I almost felt like I put my foot in my mouth by mentioning my love for women's health.

Hmmm.....just think positive thoughts. They did ask where I see myself in 5 yrs. They didn't ask me about if I was a part of any organization. Like I said they pretty much drilled me on my personal statement... Lol. Who interviewed you if u don't mind me asking ?

Oh they asked if I ever worked with adults ? í ½í¸ž I said no. But there was one lady that said that's ok you worked with adults in your clinical rotations. So it was like she was rooting for me. And the other lady who was drilling me said well your pediatric experience is good. You're going to need that in the FNP a program. So she drilled me put always had a positive comment. Weird right ... Lol

Just a rule of thumb their program is based on working in a primary care setting. So you're going to be assessing , diagnosing & treating. Most importantly educating men women & children about disease prevention, lifestyle choices... Etc. They want you to speak on that. If I talk about let's say how I find psychiatric nursing to be intriguing then they would probably say have you considered being a psychiatric NP. Which is probably why they asked you about woman's health NP because those programs are out there.

Oh absolutely, I'm aware of what FNP's do, but I don't foresee myself in THAT particular setting. I know plenty of Dermatology offices and OBGYN offices with FNPs on staff. I know my personality, and I am very interested in specializations. I enjoy immersing myself in a particular area and becoming very well versed in it. That's why I'm an Oncology nurse. I didn't apply to a Women's Health program because I think that's very risky and does not allow myself the opportunity to try different specialties down the road.

I interviewed with Lynne Palma. you??
