Fall 2009 UT Houston BSN Applicants

Published

Hey everyone! I applied to UT houston and I'm waiting to hear if I got an interview. Applicants for years in the past started threads that everyone went to and kept everyone updated on information from the school, and it's nice to hear from possible (fingers crossed) other future classmates. If you don't mind, I'd also like to post our application info: GPA (science and overall), NET scores and experience.

My stats:

Overall GPA: 3.93

Science GPA: 3.75 (I think- UT link is down today :wink2:

NET: composite score was 88% (96 percentile)

I'm currently employed as a CNA in a hospital (only have about a month experience so far)

Goodluck and hopefully I get some replies!

I do like this forum but it is quite large! I am just glad to have found some people on it! I had no idea there was another accelerated link! I also felt bad cause i thought this was only for generic-but thankfully everyone shares :)

Prasmasters they will email you-they should send it pretty soon with the date and time. you have the whole day at least i did but i still had to do it during work hours. it took about 1/2 hr. total.

Good luck to you who got in to the UT program! I didn't get in, but I did get in to UTMB Summer '09 BSN 15 month program!! I am really excited. So if you don't get into the first school you apply to, don't give up!! I applied to 2 schools before getting into UTMB, and I am so glad that I kept trying. Alright, have fun at UT Houston!!

Congratulations and good luck to you!

Hey guys, im currently at HBU and im retaking some of my classes that i got a C on do you think it will hurt my chances in getting in?

Also, do you think if i made a C in one of my science classes only one C, it will hurt my chances??

Rothenurse01,

Are you planning on applying to UT Houston? If you retake classes and get a higher grade, they will give you credit for the higher grade (I don't know what happens if you get a lower grade, though) As far as the C goes...that probably depends on what your other grades look like, but I would say it doesn't help you. I would retake a science course I got a c in before I would worry about retaking another course...

i agree with rachelerin. i made ONE C in microbio, retook the class and got an A. a C really brings down your science prereq gpa so i definitely wouldn't recommend it. retake the science class before retaking any other class b/c there is a separate gpa for the science. a C in other prereqs can be raised by other classes while a C in a science class cannot be raised adequately seeing that there's not that many science classes to begin with.

hope this helps.

I agree with rachelerin and hnhoang. The science gpa doesn't have many classes to feed into the average, but the general gpa does. I had had a C in chem from way back in the day when I was 18 and stupid, retook it last year, and got an A, which UT considered rather than the C. That made my science gpa a solid 4.0. I also had a C in college algebra from the same time period, didn't bother retaking it, and got accepted for summer. My science gpa and nursing pre-req gpa were quite a bit higher than my overall undergrad gpa, and that seemed to help. I also had a good NET score, so if yours wasn't as good as you would like, you might consider retaking it. Good luck in your application process!

javagabby brought up a really good point too. THE NET score (or whatever admissions test they're planning on using) is a BIG deal. Make sure to study for it. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that they can wing it (b/c they heard its super easy and all) but you can save yourself a lot of trouble if you just spend some time looking over the material. It almost doesn't matter if you have a really high gpa and a not-so-good test score. Remember, a very good admission test score can save you from a mediocre gpa, but a very good gpa might not be able to save you from a bad test score. Good luck w/ everything.

Thanks guys, that really helps! I really want to go to UT but im going to wait until next fall.

I already signed up for the NET exam and bought a practice workbook to study. I do not like HBU and i wish i could go back and take my pre reqs at UHD. Do you guys think since HBU is a higher type school than UHD it will hurt my chances on getting in? (they will probably think i could not handle it)

My problem is I had an attitude and personality that i could achieve anything if i just put my mind into. Ever since last fall it has not been that way bc of HBU. The teachers are VERY VERY discouraging, they want to change your mind that nursing is not for you, make stupid comments like "i hope you know what your doing" I pay over 23K a yr:cry: for this!!! and i know its not just me last smester they had a 30% failure rate in each class and a drop rate od more than 40% on top of that.

I really want to go back but it i have to ill stay and retake some classes and just finish up my pre req's there and get out of there.:banghead:

Suggestions? (i know this if for fall 09 nurs students but you guys know your stuff!)

Yes, it will not paint a very good picture of you. Never go to a lower institution to retake prereqs or take anything for that matter. If you want to transfer somewhere, transfer to somewhere better. lol, or I say just stick it out and work really hard. good luck.
