Fall 2009 UT Houston BSN Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey everyone! I applied to UT houston and I'm waiting to hear if I got an interview. Applicants for years in the past started threads that everyone went to and kept everyone updated on information from the school, and it's nice to hear from possible (fingers crossed) other future classmates. If you don't mind, I'd also like to post our application info: GPA (science and overall), NET scores and experience.

My stats:

Overall GPA: 3.93

Science GPA: 3.75 (I think- UT link is down today :wink2:

NET: composite score was 88% (96 percentile)

I'm currently employed as a CNA in a hospital (only have about a month experience so far)

Goodluck and hopefully I get some replies!

When should i apply for the fall of 2010? i really want to apply for the spring of 2010 but im going to finish up my science at the end of the fall of 09, so if i already have 8hrs of science do you think i should just wait until fall of 2010 or just apply? Do they ask you for a final transcript?

You have to have all 60 hours completed before you enroll...but only have to have 40 (I think) to apply. As for the transcripts, you have to have the most current on file. If you are close on the 60 hours and will have them completed before enrollment, I would apply for the spring...remember, they are only taking 80 students per semester now, best to get you application in sooner.

I think you should just apply to the Spring too. It can't hurt and if it were me I would always wonder if I could have made it in a semester earlier and why didn't I at least try. Also I'm pretty sure at saw at least one person on this thread who was accepted without having all of their prereq sciences finished (like A&P or Micro I can't remember) I don't have my statistics finished yet but I will before classes start....

Cailex and rachelerin both brought up very good points. However, just as a reminder, if your GPA is not stellar--I would wait to make every effort to raise them. If you need the classes you're currently taking or will be taking to raise your prereq gpa or your science prereq gpa, then it wouldn't hurt to just wait a little while longer. Hope this helps; good luck!

Well I got accepted and I was missing three classes... Intro to Sociology class, Lifespan class, and 4 Hours of either Anatomy I or Anatomy II ( I took Human Physiology which replaced 4 out of the 8).. Like Cailex said, you dont have to finish all of your classes when you apply, but you have to finish them before school starts. My Science pre-requisites was a 3.333 and I took all of them at UH.

rothenurse01,

I took some of my prerequisites at UT Austin and some at San Jac (a community college). I got in with a 4.0 science and I took those mainly at San Jac. They look at gpa, net scores, and experience. I've been working while going to school, 2 years as a dental assistant. If you can find some type of work in the medical field I think that would really help you. =)

dpjen07 makes a good point about the medical experience. But if you can't find a job, consider shadowing or volunteer work in the medical field. I did both, but the interviewer seemed very interested in the shadowing!

Thanks!! you guys are very helpful! :heartbeat Im taking my NET exam in May, so hopefully i do good. So is it really true that they are only accepting 80 ppl per semester? Do you guys think it will be better to apply in spring because a lot of people dont like to start in the spring? i think they just started doing that, right?

Im Just scared i wont get in to any nursing schools

It is true that they are only taking 80 ppl per semester. I think with either semester it will still be competetive. There are a lot of people who didn't get in for fall semester so they are going to reapply for the spring. Don't be scared. You have to just make sure you have a few schools lined up in case something falls through. Make sure your GPA is up and your NET is high...check in to the possibility that the test has not changed to the HESSI II..or something like that. I think everyone is scared/stressed until they get that interview, and then even more scared until they finally get that letter. To quote a favorite movie of mine, "if it wasn't hard everyone would do it, its the hard that makes it great."

how many people do they normally take?

They used to take around 125, but dropped down to 80 when they opened a spring enrollment.

thank you!
